Speaking of Image and Sex in selling...

Pictures of stars are often altered with Photoshop or other software.

Check out the animated image below. Faith Hill on the cover of Redbook. Thinner arms, Much thinner waist, less body fat, no lines on her face, clear skin, no freckles, etc. She looks 40 pounds lighter and 15 years younger! It's all about marketing. We're being sold a bill of goods.

Your "Sleepy Lagoon" is mighty fine. It has that Hawaiian clarity and blissfulness (that's my ear, anyway). Did you write that one?
Thanks Darryl, I appreciate it. I just noticed your comments from 2 weeks ago! I don't read every post every day, so I miss a lot of things.

"Sleepy Lagoon" is a big band tune from 1942: Harry James. I first heard it on Sneaky Pete's solo album back in the late 1970's or eary 80s, and I really liked his version. You can hear a short clip of Pete's version HERE

Surprisingly, I am now playing a few gigs with a local singer writer, he does about 12 of his own songs, very good too, and mixes cover tunes in the sets. We are playing two Chesney songs over 3 sets , and I gotta say, they are really fun to play, lots of Steel in it for me, and even better, the crowd is really into it.

How Forever Feels, and Back Where I come from

Ah' Tell U what..I never thought I would say this but these are really good songs, great bandstand songs..

It doesn't hurt to see 300 or 400 people having a good time hootin' and hollorin', even to a Chesney song. For us , it's an invite BACK to play again..good bucks to..

next weekend, Hickory NC, Wayno's Silver Bullet, sat night, come on by..

Hey Tony, I love "How Forever Feels" and "Back Where I Come From". I play along with those songs myself.

Most of Kenny's songs are country.
Our band plays some of his songs--they're fun songs. One you can hear us play is on our web site--LIVIN'IN FAST FORWARD. On the BAND PAGE, you can click under Steve Keith's photo to hear us. On Kenny's original recording there is no steel. We extended the ending for my benefit so I could get some play time. Joe

This thread can go on forever with many answers...In truth there is only one answer to why is Chesney consided Country? Just like Alabama he outsells and outdraws everyone in that field like him or not..I have no Chesney CD's with no projection of getting any but his music is not offensive to me..Not the most handsome artist ever and not the worst looking either..Hank Snows hair piece takes first place and they have similar noses. But Hanks gone and Chesneys more than hanging on..(Wonder how he'd look with Hanks old HP?) But until anyone replaces his sales and earings in the the Country field I'll bet he cares less how he's catagorized.. :)

"Country" today is defined as what we hear on broadcast radio. It is not what we have in our vinyl collection. Listen to the other formats that are being broadcasted, AC/jazz/R&B/gospel/rock. Where else would you put Kenny? There is no other place for him, but, country radio. Like him or not, Kenny is as country today as anyone out there...on broadcast radio.

You may find someone more country down at the corner bar or over at the Moose Lodge, but, they are not defining country music today to the masses.
