How many have heard of Phil Sperbeck. He was an exceptional player and surely had a positive influence on others, myself included.

Boy..theres a name out of forgotten past. Phil Sperbeck. In the late 50s the Mayflower in Cheyenne, Wyo. ask me to put together a band for Frontier days. I met Phil when he came thru with the Billy Gray band (if I'm not mistaken). I asked him if he would play steel for me. At that time I think he was living in Kansas City Mo. We hit the bandstand the first day of Frontier..with out any rehersal and because of Phil we sounded tight.
I hired him again for the next year and this time he brought his drummer (Bill Zekous)and that year we knocked them dead.
I have not heard of Phil in 30 years but the two Frontier years we played together left me with the thrill of playing with a terrific steel player and a super nice guy.

Hey Donnie H.....I'm glad you've mentioned Dave Musgrave. He's one helluva player for sure and never got the recognition he deserved. I heard and met him in the late 60's when Buddy E & Shot J put out their album together. Shot came by Blackie Taylor's Music in SoCal to do a ShoBud promo with Buddy. Dave Musgrave came with Shot. I'd never heard of him before and never heard him play but he made me a believer in a short period! He and Buddy did some playing solo and some stuff together and he was really great! He was a cool guy too, came to the thing with a suit and tie on and looked and sounded wonderful. I've heard that he played with Ray Price for a while but I'm not sure.......JH in Va.
