I remember when you sent out an E-mail asking people to keep an neye out for them. I'm glad you got them back.Jim Sliff wrote:
In my case, the new owners gave them back because the police had slight suspicions of a connection between the thief and the new owners, and they wanted out of the situation as easily as possible; the police convinced them that returning the guitars would mean no further investigation (and this was a nasty one - two expensive Martins and an interstate movement of them, so the feds were involved). I was very lucky - but I had to reimburse the insurance company.

guitar on EBay
I can't speak for the police in San Fran but having been a cop for 30 years in Canada I would say that it's impossible to get a search warrant for an item without proper identification such as a serial number.I would say that had I have been the officer you approached for assistance I certainly would have paid the man a visit and tried to get a serial number off the instrument for identification purposes but if he objected to my looking at it,game over, simple as that. The officer has no more authority in that situation than you would yourself and that's probably why the San Fran police were not responding. If you did'nt have a serial number when you filed the report then no further investigation would have taken place. If you did provide a serial number then I would be contacting a superior officer at the police headquarters.

Thanks Mike. We were very lucky...a chance conversation overheard in a music store led to a convoluted story, and eventual return. The funny thing is, both were due for neck resets when stolen - but they spent time in the Arizona desert, which somehow shifted things slightly and put them both back on spec!
So it was like they were in the shop for a year, sorta...

Still off topic... It was Eric Burdon post-Animals.. might've been his first single as a solo artist. He was all filled with "summer of love" benevolence (or something) when he wrote it... the song was an artifact of the times, kind of a grittier version of "If you're goin' to San Francisco be sure to wear some flowers in your hair...summertime will be a Love-in there"
I hear ya Brint... I always thought it was a joke of his to call a SF night "warm"

San Francisco is all that Alan pointed out, and I hope that any of you who visit enjoy all it has to offer.

I dare you to go to Savages website and look at what your city has become and the values that it and the city government aspire to.
NOTHING he has presented about the condition of SanFranciso is untrue.
The question about the SanFran police departments role in not being more helpful in recovering this steel guitar was asked. You need to understand the general climate in the department and the relationship of what is happening in the city to understand that.

Are you seriously listening to Savage? Seriously? That's sort of like reading tabloids and letting them affect your daily decisions.Bill Hatcher wrote:http://www.homestead.com/prosites-prs/Eric Jaeger wrote:I'm sorry, but I am one of those rare natives of the city of San Francisco (born in Presbyterian Hospital), and I take some offense at that statement.
