With all the gazillion strat and tele copies in this world, does any one make a stringmaster copy? I know that there a some wonderfull guitars out there such as the Remington, and the George's and others, and Im aware of the Fender Japan website that has them. But does any one in the states build a USA stringmaster look-alike?

What good would a look-alike be? Would it not be better to have a sound-alike? Or play- alike?

Yes, I've seen the Canopus on some sort of Japan Fender site. I never see them for sale in the states? whats the deal?
I just personaly think as popular as vintage stringmasters are, that Fender or some other USA builders are missing the boat by not offering a re-issue. But I guess one would have to legaly own the rights.

| Guyatone made copies during the 60s, though they were made in Japan, I believe. You should use the "Search" function to look for notes on these and on others. |

Yes... Thanks... Ive seen those Guyatones of the 60's....My thoughts were focused on the present demand for stringmasters and it just seems like someone would be filling that void, or at least what seems to be a void, considering stringmaster prices.

| I have a CANOPUS D-8 which I feel is a tremendous instrument and the "stringmaster" of the 21st Century. I have had the opportunity to compare the Fender Stringmaster and the Canopus side-by-side, both excel. Most Stringmasters are around 50 years old and it is almost like comparing an older car with today's newer models....well, not quite. The Fender is still an awesome guitar ! Nevertheless, I love my Canopus !! |

Another guitar which goes along "unsung", but is nevertheless very well made and almost a carbon copy of the old Fender "Stingmaster" is the D-8 TRADEWIND which is made by my good friend Elva West in Anaheim...(not too far from where Leo manufactured his guitars). You can contact Elva at: elvawest@sbcglobal.net
I have one of his earlier D-8 models. It has a great sound ! FYI |

Yes, there are some really quality builders out there and some really nice guitars.
I guess the answer to my question is that there are not any stringmaster copies being built for sale in the USA. I guess there are enough original Stringmasters floating around, and they have not drained everyones pocket book yet.....

I think folks are misunderstanding me, and sometimes I dont get my point across very well.....This was just a discussion topic, I wasnt looking to purchase.
Anyway....Lots of nice builders and nice guitars. Got a email from Elva West and I would like to see some pic's of his guitars, sounds nice.......
In truth Im supprised Fender hasnt come out with a re-issue of the Stringmaster as big as the demand is !!! But, in contrast to the tele or strat, I guess the numbers would be relatively small.
