If it's one of the old oribinal tube type Standel's it's worth a mint. i have no Idea what the values of these old amps are. If it's one of the Transistor amps Standel made in the early 60's it's worthless. Most of the parts in these amps were cast in a resin block and cannot be repaired if there is a problem. I was given one with a nasty buzz. Kept the speakers which sounded pretty good and junked the cabinet.

"Book price" right now on the 25L15 is from $2,500-$3,500. (Mind you, this is the low-to-high value for an amp in "excellent" condition.) Amps that are in poorer condition would lose significant value, unless they were owned by a very famous player.

Danny Mckinney is the President of Standel Company today. Give him a call or email some pictures. (818)-837-9864 or email danny@standelamps.com. He can tell you anything you want to know.

Jim, the schematics to the resin coated preamp modules in solid state Standels are available on the Standel website. One of the best sounded steel rigs I ever heard was an old ShoBud through a solid state model. There is a guy in LA that works on these amps and figured them out by trail and error before the schematics became available.

Reverb on both channels. Reverb and tremolo on Channel 2. Sure am glad our trade deal required each to take care of our own shipping. Something tells me this is heavy. Those Altecs are getting hard to find.

Tell Buddy that the old transistor amps are worthless- that would surprise him to be sure. I have 6 of those old "worthless" amps in the shop and I love the sound. As an aside- there is an excellent repairman for the potted boards if anyone has the need.

I wish I had been a forum member two years ago. All the info I found indicated that the transistor amps weren't worth repairing. You not only have to ask the right questions, but also the right people.

ANYONE WHO HAS ONE OF THOSE WORTHLESS LATE 60s - EARLY 70s STANDEL SOLID STATE AMPS -- especially the Custom 15 --

(I hate to spoil Jim Morehead's and my secret but . . .)
This is the best pedal steel amp I have ever played through. Hands down -- including everything Peavey, Webb, Evans, etc. have ever made -- this is it for me.

I will gladly take your worthless Standel SS amps off your hands -- and I'll even pay shipping. For gigging at higher volume I PREFER THE SS STANDELS to the TUBE MODELS.

I can't believe that a steel player who has actually played through a Custom 15 or Custom 24 could ever call it worthless. But, to each his own.

I personally will let it be known that I'll pay as high as anyone for a '50s 25 L 15 in good condition. (more than anyone?) The prices mentioned above are agreeable to me.

I just disposed of two transistor late '60s Standels, however, these were the type Standels that Pete Drake always used during his hit recording career. Guess I should have called Larry or Jim, sorry boys didn't know anyone cared about them.

I have had two new 50 L 15 Standel amps on order with 50% deposits now for going on three years, guess Danny McKenny is having some delays. So much for being a stocking dealer,

Bobbe

By the way guys, a bit of history, The first truly great Emmons Amp was built by Bob Crooks of the Standel co.
It was a transistor amp and possibly the best "Standel" (Emmons) amp ever built, ('69'70) I traded the three neck Bigsby that Herb Steiner now has even to Ron Lashley for a new Emmons (Standel) amp. It was wonderful, but time and the constant "road shows" finally got to it. But these were wonderful amps. I know there have to be some still around,

Bobbe or anyone else who knows, I have a 70J15 and wonder if they are of any value? All I know is that it is all tube.

Jerry, if its in incredible condition possibly, but its the "J" that kills the value.
If you can get me a picture of it, I'll get the "Standel Gurus" (Bresh, Yandell, etc) together and find out the exact value if you wish.

Don't forget the ZB/Standel's. A fine sounding amp,
scarcer than hen's teeth, but definitely a candidate
for the Standel steel amp hall of fame.

Joe.

Bobbe, I sent photos of the 70J15 to you a couple of months ago trying to con you into trading me two Maroon Nashville 112's for it. Perhaps you didn't see the email? I will send the photos again as I would appreciate some info on the amp.

Jerry, your amp is definately pre-63 since it's all tube. Bob Crooks started building hybrid versions around -63. I have a couple of old Standel catalogs, if you can post pics here or email them I could maybe give you more detailed info. The type of upholstering, knobs and other cosmetic things are a good hint of the manufacture period. "J" stands for Jensen speaker which means that it was a bit more moderately priced than the "L" ( JBL or Lansing as they called them in the catalogs )versions. The amp configuration was the same though, just a different speaker.

The Standel C24 I rec'd in a trade arrived yesterday.
Other than a bent caster, it made the trip from MS alright. Propped it up, plugged it in, and was rewarded with a real sweet clean tone. Plenty of volume and body. The Altecs are a little brighter so a couple changes on the EQ and roll off of the tone control and it's really nice. Reverbs a little splashy. but using the line out on the back to some stereo delay is my cup of tea anyway. The real kicker is the tremolo. It's
adjustments allow a real slow subtle wave.
I like it!

Anyone know where I can a get new piece of that blue Standel grill cloth?
