Any Requests?..From David Hartley..

Post by David Hartley »

The Highway 40 blues was requested by someone a while ago so we thought we'd have a pick at it...I need ideas? Pure Country, not Jazzy! Thanking you in anticipation of any answers to my request for an idea for a YouTube Video for me and John Stannard.. The topless girls instead of FLASH the dog's appearance was quite a good idea from someone!! But I think it might have to be my Flash Pup again..

Howzabout this nice slow one; `The Dark Isle`. I'm not sure, but Allan Thompson may have recorded this. Here is the first You-tube clip I found. Ignore the soppy pics and dig the tune:

David, first I want thank you for sharing your fine talent with us.
This tune may not be considered country by the pure country folks, but could you give "Wind Beneath My Wings" a shot.I find to be one of those rather rare songs that has great lyrics as well as great melody.Thanks.. PJ :D

Hello David; how about your take on, "Pick Me Up On Your Way Down". I forgot to mention before how impressed I am with John's picking. You fellows are most impressive musicians, IMO.

Hi David...your playing is nothing short of the absolute finest steel guitar playing around and you keep up the great work. How about playing "Sweet Memories".

David:
Since there is an ongoing interesting thread started by Joe Goldmark, how about Ian Tyson's classic "Someday Soon". By the way your talent on the PSG is outstanding but those tele pickers gotta be running for the exits when John cuts loose. Excellent!

Dave, can you do your version of Mozart's Banjo Concerto No.1 in Bb major please - without messing it up?

If not, a nice version of God Save The Queen will do and don't forget to stand up while you're playing it...

Calm down.
I've known Dave for a long time and I know he likes a bit of good natured, friendly banter. No doubt if he replies he'll give as good as he gets.

Well I have made a choice of song now.........

Post by David Hartley »

Mozart's Banjo Concerto No.1 in Bb major it is.. Hey Tony, Do you remember whether Mozart used a capo on the third fret of his banjo on that one? You must have seen him on a few gigs in your time! ;-) Don't forget I have that photo of you when you was a kid on the steel at the Harlow club! I nearly attached it to this reply but didn't want to embarrass you! I bet the room got smokey when the photographers flash gun went off! :D I'm busy giging at the moment so the Steel aint getting set up much to do a camcorder thing.. I have made a choice from that selection of ideas, Give me a while and I will post something soon....Thanks everyone, David

David, I'd love to see that early pic of Tony at the Harlow club (Victoria hall) I first met Tony at Bury St Edmunds Town hall. Was a Country festival, Tony was playing a Denley Rotosound I believe, and the band was Cross Country. The place had a glass dome roof...worst accoustics ever!! Time flys :)

... the bumblebee cannot fly. But not knowing this, he goes ahead and flies anyway.

How about 'Flight of the Bumblebee' with each note blocked and no cheating (glissandos)?

I'd love to hear that!
