I've read all the previous posts for an 8-string Leavitt tuning, but I am not quite sure about the string guages. I am using these but the fat E seems a bit strange. I am hoping someone out there has any suggestions!

.052 .036sf .036sf .030sf .024sf .022 .018
Eb C C# E G Bb C

.015
D

This tuning sure is sweet!

Have you looked at the string gage section at Brad's Page of steel?

I did look at Bob's page of steel. I should add that I am using Fender Dual Professional so the scale/tension might be an issue when figuring out the gauges.

I used a combination of the gauges that Mike Ihde uses and what is posted on John Ely's website. I was just wondering what other folks have been successful with.

Thanks,
Tom

This may be a clearer way of referring to your tuning.

1. D .015
2. C .018
3. Bb .022
4. G .024sf
5. E .030sf
6. C# .036sf
7. C .036sf
8. Eb .052

What does the "sf" mean? I'm unfamiliar with that abbreviation.
The Eb using a .052 gauge string does not sound out of line if it's a low Eb (one half step lower than the low E on a regular guitar tuning).
