emmons help info

Hello experts.When do you think this guitar was made.Is the loafer pad original?The fret markers look kindof like decals with the ridges around them.I,ve taken a pic of one so you can tell what I mean.I,ve emailed emmons and they don,t have a record of it.It is a funky type green color with a rough like pattern.Has anyone seen one like this before?I hope the pics go thru...Thomas Malugin Columbia Tn

If Emmons don't know. There is no way I can know. But if the serial # has not been changed? It should be a 79.If you're happy with it? And the Emmons guitar Co is ok with it.Just enjoy it.

Thanks.I thought it was a late 70.s.I don.t think the back pad is original though.I have a friend that wants to trade this one to me for a single loafer legrande and was wondering when it was made.The lagrande is in alot better condition though and is probaly worth more. Thomas Malugin

Emmons used to offer a green mica finish. I think Jimmy Crawford had one,possibly the one on his lp.....you know the one........A Ton of Steel. I came pretty close to ordering one in that color but John Macy talked me out of it.

Avocado green. Very '70s color. I've seen other Emmons SD10s with pads like that. Might well be original. It's a genuine '70s Emmons push/pull SD10. Looks to be in good condition. Tone to the bone in a funky '70s color. Enjoy it. There is none better. Smile

Looks like a converted D-10 to me. The photo of the changer endplate shows the tuning holes for the C6 neck.

I think that is how they all are.I have a single neck legrande loafer and it has the cut out for the c6 also. Thomas Malugin

Amazing, it is original and a 1977-8.
Possibly the first ever loafer, and I bet you can guess why it is green!

I had a discussion with Ron Lashley about this guitar and tried to keep him from refering to it as a Loafer".. I though this name had a negitive content.
I was wrong, (I guess).

In all my years looking at Emmons guitars, I've only seen one other Emmons with that color mica. That being an infamous guitar owned by the great Kenny Grohman, he of San Antonio Texas and the Todd Fritsch Band.

Kenny's guitar, a D-10 from the 70's, sounds fantastic under his most capable direction. The color is kind of funky, true; but I told him it would look great next to the refrigerator and stove we had back in the old house, before we moved. Wink

All the SD-10 Originals that I'm aware of had the C6 holes in the changer endplate, regardless. That's just a characteristic of the brand.

I would think the guitar is original. The color is "green leatherette" as referred to in the early 70's Emmons guitar company ad brochure. My dad had an Emmons guitar that color. He always regretted letting it go.

I can't guess why it's green but I do agree that "loafer" is a really goofy name for a guitar model. I always wondered how it got started, it's hard to imagine a steel builder thinking that was a good name??
Thomas, I would think with its uniqueness this might be worth more than the legrande, there are plently of people that can get the mechanics of this up to speed.
