Those from the school of suppressed wit, are branded thusly throughout their lives. Incognito at its best fails to conceal the undertones of derision.

I tried to read Bill's posts, but his choice of English words is out of reach for an ordinary foreigner Confused

Just as long as there's no Latin (like E Pluribus Funk, or "quid pro quo's"...) I like your prose Bill Smile

Focusing on objects that wither with the seasons, betrays our cogitative values of the passing of precious time.

Johan.

Kind words reverberate in our memoirs, lasting for indefinite periods of time. So crucial to morale, are words of approval, such as those that you have written.

And maybe a moral to the story is:

Everybody's 'Morale' can use a boost sometimes,
no matter HOW self-confident they seem.

And if they are NOT abundantly self-confident
even MORE SO!

Even if you are not cut from the same cloth
as another forumite, if you have benifited
even just ONE WORD,
from the postings of another here,
it is not a bad thing to give a little
positive re-enforcement to them.

I say JUST ONE WORD, because with Bill's posts,
just looking up a word, to figure out what he said,
IS growth for YOU, and benefits you in some way.
Hey today I learn another word!

In addition the over-all ideas he postulates and
the discussions often arising make people think.
In this day of TV and radio pap and pablum,
actually being 'moved to think' is a rarified thing.

Bravo Bill.

Hi Bill,
please, can you tell something about yourself, did you study English or did you educate yourself in another way to that high level?
Just curious. Thanks, Johan

Johan,

"Believe it or not", my early experiences with individuals who delight in correcting improper terminology, were the most probable influences to advancing my studies of the English language. When you take time to ponder, there is hopelessness in attempting to communicate without a "bastion" of words and meanings stored in the memory. I believe that I've scratched the surfaces, by making what I believe to be logical inferences, relating to mainly, the steel guitar. I studied English for one semester at Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield, MA. My experiences extending over a 4 year period, as assistant editor for Dick Larkin's "Country Music Record Newspaper", helped to influence the need for proper English. While with the paper, I was privileged to interview some of the greats of country music, including Chet Atkins and Connie Smith. MASSBASHES that are assembled here in and around Western Massachusetts, are very much a part of my comunicative studies, since 1981. I keep a copy of Webster handy, for quick references. Thanks for your interest.

I too must confess I have learned new words and phrasing deliveries. But the only time I have been able to use them was to make reference to them from other Bill Hankey posts. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
