Where's a good place to get some nice maple for the top and sides of a project pedal steel?

Try Luthiers Mercantile or Stewart-MacDonalds, both of which have catalogs online. Luthiers Mercantile is more geared to builders, whereas Stewart-McDonalds carry a good line of spare parts. I buy a lot of my wood from Luthiers Mercantile, but, being located in California, I usually just drive over there about twice a year and stock up.

You can also look online. A lot of wood is sold on eBay. Search over "luthier".

I guess I am one of the lucky ones. There is a local supplier right here in London, Ontario that seems to have hard maple and birdseye maple in stock at all times. Reasonable too, I thought. It cost me just over $100 CAN for my project (SD)

Gary,

Below is a link to a woodshop in Oxford, KS. I have purchased some really nice maple from them in the past. I think they can get flame maple & birdseye maple if that's what you're looking for.

They have reasonable prices & their stuff is all very high quality.

Hardwood Connection in Sycamore IL has supplied me with all my wood in the past and they carry the more exotic stuff also or can get it at the drop of a hat if it isn't in stock at the time you order. They also offer custom planing and cutting per your needs. They've been around for a long time and are very reputable. 1(815)895-8733.
