I am looking at two National New Yorkers. One has the oversized pickup (large chrome cover with a Plexi cover over it) and the other is the more typical pickup with the magnet ends and the metal plate over the top. I have several Supros/Nats with the latter PU and love the sound. WIll I get the same sound with the other Plexi model? Is the sound similar? Cleaner? Hotter? Brighter? I really want one of these but want a sound similar to what I am used to. The condition of the Plexi is perfect.

Buck,

I have a 1947 New Yorker with a plexiglass cover but "normal" sized single coil pickup. I also have a 1941 with the string-through Supro-style pickup. The latter is definitely "hotter" and edgier, while the 1947 pickup has a warmer and cleaner sound. I'm sure someone with experience with the over-sized pickup will chime in.
