Topic: QwikStix Adjustable Bar Holder |

I recently purchased a QwikStix Adjustable Bar Holder like the one pictured below for use with a Carter S-10 PSG. Problem is that it doesn't mount very well. According to the QwikStix web site the maximum leg size for mounting is 7/8", and the width of the back legs of the Carter S-10 is 3". I can mount it but it has a tendency to slide off, and leaves scratch marks on the leg. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so how did you correct it? It was purchased from Carter Steel Guitars so it should work.

I'd call Carter and tell them about the problem. I'm sure they'll make it right.

Frank, what I was trying to say is that the back leg is 3" round. I guess I should have said that the diameter of the back leg is 3". Sorry for any confusion.

| Donny, I recently purchasd one of the smaller versions for my new Desert Rose. I too was concerned about the screw scratching the leg. To remedy this, I took black tape and made a round on the left leg, now it is always at the right height and I don't have to worry about damage. These things sure does beat laying the bar in the middle of the guitar. Fraturnally, JW Day |

Definition of diameter is a straight line passing through the center of the circle from one side to the other. If you have steel legs that wide... dude, may I suggest lipo?? 
I have one of those things, and it works ok. Better than the nothing I had before. It really needs one more tilt capability to make it great.

The QwikStix Adjustable Bar Holder is mounted now. I was screwing the mounting bracket (or whatever its called) too tight, and that was causing it to push away from the leg.

.875 x 3.14 = 2.7475 is correct for around the outside[circumfrence] .875,or 7/8" through the center.

I think the things that fasten to guitar legs look dopey. Lay your bar and picks carefully on your steel, and they won't damage the finish. 
Actually, if you like "protection", cut a finger off an old pair of large gloves, and stick you bar in that. Not only does this protect the bar's finish and the guitar's finish, it also keeps your bar warm between sets.  |

It would be better to "look dopey" (strictly your opinion) than to risk denting or dinging a new or valued, classic lacquer guitar or the metal necks on a mica guitar (or any other part). If the bar doesn't make contact with the body, it can't damage the body.
It is a lot quicker and easier to just drop picks and bars into an outboard holder which will prevent the possibility of damage than it is to put a protective glove on a bar.
What about matchboxes, tuners, steeldrivers, etc. hanging onto guitar legs? Do they look "dopey"? |

IMHO, definitely yes. Steelers are soooooo pickey about their guitars. They can't have a fingerprint on the endplate, or speck of dust on the fretboard. But then they'll hang a painted aluminum box or plastic dingus on the leg, and swear it looks just fine.
Reminds me of someone towing a beat-up U-Haul trailer behind a Rolls-Royce.  |

| I just set a small wooden stool next to my psg, like a little end table. It holds my tuner and drinks and junk like that. But I'm not opposed to clamping stuff to a leg. Everything I've seen for that has been really overpriced. The legs on my psg are made from mic stands, and I reckon most of the 'clamp to a mic stand' junk they sell would work just fine. |

I have a cupholder that I made from pvc pipe,snaps on/off no scratches. Sure beats sitting a drink on, or near amps, and stuff. Also have a piece of formica with felt glued to the backside cut to fit on the area that gets the most bar drops.
What!!!!!you never dropped your bar???

Some time ago there was a fellow making a bar holder out of wood that clamped to your guitar leg with a split piece of garden hose. I never cared much for the garden hose bit and replaced it with one of those leg clamps that George L makes. The same kind that Goodrich uses.
My good friend, CrowBear even sent me one from France that was excess to his needs. I have one that holds two bars, tuning wrench and a place for picks. It works out great and is quite attractive. What I like about it is that you can swing it out of the way and is not clamped so solid to the leg. |
