Okay, it was a few less pounds ago but it was me and my shirt. I worked several dates with Linda while living in California.

And therein lies more confusion. Buddy was living in California.

But Linda's people were not able to use her regular band for the gig, just a portion. The drummer and steeler were guys who had played with her before and were recruited locally. That's one thing Bob was real clear about - drums and bass were local to the gig, he was told it was Myrick (and knew it was Buttrey on drums), and he had also played with Buddy on many gigs & sessions and said for sure it wasn't Buddy. And if Buddy was in California, that kind of ices it, since the portion of the band Lind took traveled together to the gig.

...in Tennessee

The gig was at the Tennessee State Prison.

So if Buddy was indeed playing there seems to be a couple thousand miles missing from the story somewhere.

Buddy, you rock. Jim, you really need to listen to us sometimes. There are those of us here who have seen both Buddy and Weldon play live many times for many years. All we have to do is see a five second clip of their right hand to know exactly who it is. I don't know if you know who Steve Hinson is, but believe he knows both Buddy and Weldon, and when he speaks listen closely. We have studied them both over the years very closely. They are like teachers to us.

The bass player in that clip is Linda's bass player...Kenny Edwards...not a"local"bass player...and the steel player is Buddy Emmons...hang it up,Chief...

I agree with Steve, the bass player is Kenny Edwards, who recommended me for the gig in '68 and whom I've known since high school.

And Big E says it's his shirt and it's him playing.

So isn't it about time to piss on the dog, call in the fire, and get on with our bidness?

Jim, Buddy says he was there. Let it go, unless you were at that show too. It's possible that your friend Bob did actually forget, and that's ok. He's human and doesn't need to see a doctor.

Guys, I'm not arguing - really! I'm just presenting info from one of the players that was on stage. Bob's not just "a friend of mine" - he's a darned well respected Tele player who did a lot of major work (Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Every Brothers among them) before going part-time while playing "legal eagle".

Now Buddy says he was in California...and the gig was in Tennessee. According to Bob, the steeler did NOT travel with the band, and he was told it was Weldon - and again, having played with Buddy many times he swears it's not Buddy.

I'm just presenting Bob's info, as he's not a member here. He said it can't be Buddy...and now Buddy is talking about California.

His "California" statement certainly doesn't clear things up when his "chair" in the band didn't travel from California.

I have no...what is it..dog in this fight? Bob's just a friend and bandmate, and has been trying to clear this up on a couple forums. If he's wrong, I'll terrorize the heck out of him...but it sure as heck is not clear yet, and none of YOU guys were at the gig, right?

So was Buddy in California...or Tennessee? If he was playing with Linda in CA, did he travel on his own to the Tennessee prison gig since he didn't travel with the band?

Here's Bob's actual post on another forum, and sorry - I did make a mistake about a local bassist...it was Buttrey who was local:

"The steel player was Weldon Myrick. Linda didn't bring the whole band, which then included Ed Black on steel and John Ware on drums - some kind of limit on personnel, I guess. The result was that Andrew Gold played keyboards and guitar, and Kenny Edwards played bass, and I played electric (bender), but the steel player was Weldon, and the drummer was (the late) Kenny Buttrey - both great players in their own right. "

To me that carries a little more weight than an offhand comment about a shirt and a statement about playing with Linda *in California*.

I remember years ago the concert was relaesed on LP as a special promotion by NAPA Auto Parts. I looked for it for years, never found it. The reason I wanted it was it listed the steel player as...Buddy Emmons.

The steeler in "Crazy" is Dugmore, I'm pretty sure.

The drummer in the Silver Threads clip is John Ware. Though his hair is darker on the clip than I remember, John's hair was a sandy blonde color. He was on the band during my time.

And it is Andrew Gold on rhythm guitar. I only met Andrew one time, when Linda played in Austin once carrying Dugmore and Ed Black both on steel.

Buddy, hadn't you moved back to Tennessee by that time? Well, you're probably not reading this silly thread anymore.

I watched this video and another one and from the the way the hands are cupped and the body movements I noticed in the other video I would say it's Buddy.

Posting a clip from a different gig is kind of irrelevant.

Guys, YOU insist I'm arguing, but I'm just relaying from Bob. Please understand, he's a good guy with an amazing memory for gigs, sessions, etc. Someone with both a medical degree and a J.D. isn't a dolt. And what's been posted by Buddy about California doesn't clear things up, if you note Bob's post about only part of the band going from CA and the steel player NOT being one of them. Bob thinks Buddy is thinking about something other than the Tennessee State Prison gig.

Jim, your "sit down" comment is uncalled for. I'm just providing info from one of the band members - I don't recall your doing the same, nor being there...so perhaps the body part in a seat should be yours.

The "Love has no pride" video did it for me.

I took an all day seminar with him in 1987 and sat only 4 feet away from him. I don't have any doubt it's not him in the video.

I agree. The hand movements and the body language on the clip are Big E all the way. The harmonics thoughout the song, especially on the end are also signature Buddy Emmons. And the man himself TOLD US it was him. What more do some Forum members require? DNA evidence?

having gone back and viewed the footage, oh.. and that's my DVD copy, not a youtube clip.. I'd have to say that I'm quite certain it's Buddy Emmons.
Same haircut, exact build and the mo' that Buddy had at the time, and let's face it.. what dude forgets a great shirt.

Having known Bob for some many, many years, his recollection is near to faultless and he has remained one of the great unknowns of country-rock, he was part of the Countryside band that recorded Red Rhodes excellent 'Velvet Hammer In A Cowboy Band' LP in 1973.

In my world, Bob Warford has no less cred than Buddy Emmons, after all he was freakin' there, and I have to repsect Jim for sticking to his guns.
However, having said that I have to rely on my eyes and superior video source to say that I'm sure that it's Buddy Emmons on the Emmons.
And yeah, as previously stated the core of Linda's band Kenny Edwards (bass), Andrew Gold (guitar, vocals), Bob Warford (guitar, vocals).. are there.

Now, can we all now sit down on our hands...

Hehehe - That's pretty much how I feel, Jason.

I'm not really "sticking to my guns", though - I'm just performing as a conduit. Bob is the one sticking to his guns - I'm just "delivering the paper". So I'd wish folks would lay off me *personally*, no matter what preconceived notions they might have that I'm automatically wrong or at fault somehow. I'm not even voting, just trying to balance the information, and guys are playing "shoot the messenger.". Heck, it kind of looks like Buddy to me too - but it's an awfully short view of the steeler and a really bad angle, so I can't say..

Bob's given some pretty solid info about the gig and why only part of Linda's core band was there; and no one has explained the seemingly contradictory part about Buddy playing with Linda when he lived in California - yet this was a Tennessee gig.

Eventually I'm sure we'll get info from another outside source that will confirm one or the other. And as I implied before, I really don't care which one it was, I'm just helping Bob pass on information.

So please, lighten up guys - there are still some gray areas, and it'll be interesting to see how it pans out.
