During one of our visits to Hawai'i, (27), Kyoshi (Lion) Kobyashi who is an extraordinary steel player in both jazz idiom and Hawaiian styling played his Harmos while sitting-in at the Halekulani. The tone was quite awesome. I was also impressed at the light 'feather' weight of the instrument.

Welcome, James! I think the Harmos lap steel is one of the most unique looking instruments ever made. I still haven't had the chance to try one myself, but I'm glad to see you're using one.

If you go to the HSGA page http://www.hsga.org/new_design/quarterly.htm
and click on either the "White Ginger Blossoms" MP3 or the Leavitt Tuning Quickstart MP3, you'll hear me playing using my 7 string Harmos. I really like it. It has it's own unique voice.
