Amp hums when going through volume pedal

I am getting a hum from my peavey amp when I use it via the volume pedal. Otherwise OK. Any suggestions as to the cause of this?

What kind of volume pedal? And how are you hooking it up?

Have you checked all your cords? Could be a bad cord.

I've been in rooms where the electric lines were running under the floor where my guitar was setting. Try a couple of layers of aluminun foil under you volume pedal. Sometimes that's the magic.

I've got a Goodrich pedal that hums. Try what Randy suggests.

OK. This is a goodrich pedal; basically in new condition. The effect I'm getting is currently in my garage on a concrete floor where the is no underlying cabling issues.
There may be a leads problem, I'll get a couple of new leads and see if that fixes it.
I don't believe the amp has anything to do with it as the sound is clean when fed directly.
Would battery strength have anything to do with this?

Make sure that you use soldered cables. However, I use soldered cables and my Goodrich still hums.

What are you using that needs a battery? The volume pedal? or do you have an effect in the line too?

There is a battery in the pedal no other devices in the line.

Oh, it's not just a standard passive pot volume pedal. In this case it would appear there is an electronic problem in the volume pedal. Best option is to contact Goodrich to get it repaired as Goodrich does not provide schematics for their equipment.

I also just noticed that when I up the volume I am getting a local radio station at very low level coming through the amp. Is that a diagnostic of any sort. Sorry, but in amps and electronics I am very much the novice.

I don't think Goodrich have any service facilities in Australia.

In you circumstance, Pat, I would suggest a call to Goodrich to see what they suggest. If it's under warranty it will only cost you shipping. If not, I'd find a good tech to look it over.

It could have a bad ground, or even a bad decoupling cap, but a good tech should be able to find and solve the problem. That may be the least expensive route anyway.
