What's YOUR size ? (Prompted by recent E-Mails !!)
Just out of interest I was wondering what is the average size bar for 6/8 string lap or reso ?
Diameter length and weight.
I always thought that 3/4" X 2 7/8" with a weight of 4.8oz (135gram) was the 'Norm"
A poll would not be possible because of the required three variables, so post your preference PLEASE.

Oh - wrong bar.
I like 2.75" long by .75" diameter, and about 4.5 oz weight. If I'm playing 8 string, I sometimes will use the slightly longer 3" bar. I generally use Dunlops. They're easy to get, inexpensive, work just fine and I don't get too spoiled.
That said, I'm thinking about trying one of these Delrin bars anyway.

For me a little more weight helps:
7/8" x 2&7/8"
I know Byrd recommends 3/4" diameter for split-string noting, but the 7/8" diameter seems to allow just as precise positioning for my ear. |

I use two different lengths, one a 2 7/8ths and one almost 4 inches long, for a couple of tunes where the slants get really deep. Neither bullet bar gets a lot of use, though. I use my Lap Dawg or SP2 almost every tune. |

I have only two bars, 3/4X2 3/4, and 3/4 x 2 7/8 (like Mike) I can't really tell any difference when switching from one to the other. I've only had them since around 2000, and before that, since the 40s, I used a 1/2 X 2 3/4 "sureform" stainless bar. When getting back into playing again , I couldn't hold on to the old 1/2 " bar, so I gave it to Jeff Au Hoy, who was already using a small diameter bar. I had a Black Raja for a while, but didn't care that much for it, and gave it away.

My current favorite is my new 3/4 X 2 3/4 Red Rajah. I wish it came in 7/8" at the 2 3/4 length.

Red Rajah, Sheerhorn Stainless, 3/4 X 2 3/4 Delrin bar (by Gene Wilson),Dunlop 920 & 918 and a big Emmons bar that I've has for 25 years or more. All except the Emmons are bars I've acquired in the last couple of years and these are just the ones I've kept. |

My favorite bar size has to be large enough so I can sit with all my friends enjoying a cold one. A view of the ocean makes it nice too. |
