Recommendations for listening??

I'm looking to get doses of Lloyd Green and Buddy Emmons. Any recommendations on the best bang-for-the-buck CD's to pick up?

I have a different comment to make.
Being new to texas,I don't have a lot of students as yet.But I have told the few I have something I never thought of,til I moved here.
Some of the country music being played here is not the new stuffsome like to hate.But the older music and a whole bunch I have never heard anywhere.
Some of it is very elementary.You can hear the 1 ,4, and 5 real good.That's what I tell the newbies to listen to when the can.Picking out the numbers becomes easier and easier and they can add the two when they hear it or what ever.I give them all a chart.The pleasure of the E or Jody is always there for pleasure.I can remember back when I said to myself,some of the members played a two minor,but some played the major.This also may be good for ear training.
Hope this doesn't offend anyone.

"Lloyds of Nashville" is a big fave of mine, and so is "Revisited", also by Lloyd Green.

My own favorite for Lloyd Green (and the stuff that made him famous), is heard best on Johnny Paycheck's "Jukebox Charlie" album. For Emmons' stuff, I still gravitate towards the "Black Album" (real title: "Buddy Emmons - Emmons Guitar Inc.") and his "Steel Guitar Jazz" album.

These were all originally LP albums, but I've seen all of them on CD. They can still be hard to find, though.

But boy, are they worth it!!!

Marc,

Lloyd's "Cool Steel Man" and Mr. Nashville Sound". Two albums, although old, are worth listening to. These 2 records have given me countless hours of listening pleasure, plus, if you play the steel, you'll have hours and hours of education.
Buddy Emmons' "Steel Guitar" (the one with the rainbow.
Listen to pure steel, like "Wild Mountain Thyme" ONLY steel, nothing else. Pure stuff. You gotta like it.
Those are my recommendations.

Ernest Tubb's record shop had both of the Emmons cd's in Pigeon Forge Tenn. Just give them a call they ship.

I have a lot of them,but one of my favorites is MODEL T by Frank Arnett.Imo he NEVER got the recognition he deserved.SUPER PICKER.

I dont know the album it's on, but find "Canon in D" by Buddy Emmons. Continues to blow my mind and is a must-have for ANY steel player! Maybe someone else on here can tell you what album it's on...

P.S,two other outstanding CD's with monster picking is STEELIN' THE HITS with Mike Fried,Marty Rifkin,and Mark Switzer,on the CMH label Cd no.is 5207,The other one is Classic COUNTRY GOLD,with Steve Wilkerson on steel,it's on the Excelsior label no.7503.These may be hard to find,but if you can you won't regret it.By the way do any of you have these two.
