I would like to thank Doug Jernigan for opening for Mike, Rusty and myself. We alway seem to have a bigger crowd when he does that.

I would like to thank all the players and guest who showed up last night. We had a great time and I got the honor of playing behind Laney Hicks, Wow, what a great talent, great voice and so pretty too.
my special thanks to Laney, for singing with Mike Sweeney, Rusty Danmyer and myself.she made us sound good. I would also like to thank Doug Jernigan for his great set. He sounded so good, fast or slow, he played like all of us wanted to play when we first sat down to a pedal steel.
Chuck Campbell had a great first set with Van Coffee. Good tastful tunes.
Also thanks to Eddie Dunlap for his picking on the set with Doug, Great job everyone. If you missed it you missed a great show and a good time.

Mike,
I was sitting, listening along with everyone else to how good those three steels sounded together. Great players, best of the best rhythm section...oh, yes, I enjoyed singing with you guys. And, I won't argue with you here about who made who sound good...Russ assures me unashamedly that I nor any other mere girl singer would fare well without the magic of the steel guitar...I tend to agree...and in this case, there were three of you!!! Very Happy

I really appreciate how at the NTSGA Jams we're usually treated to an entertaining variety of good musicians; some are players who have exclusively dedicated their whole lives to developing an amazing, God-given talent, and others simply love it so much that they learn to play just eager to taste the pleasure of making real music with such a complex instrumental machine. And, it's always exciting to watch a really young player with a fearless zeal who just dives right in ready to soak in all of it, like Eddie, who courageously, and quite well exchanged rides with the machine himself, Doug Jernigan, Tuesday night!
These Jams are also a perfect place to touch base with new and longtime Friends. It was good to see everyone there, and we missed a few that we hope are doing well and hope to see again at the next Jam.
I've got to thank my Brother Chuck Campbell for staying in town to do the Jam. You did a great job, played sweet and pretty like you do!

I understand that in October, we'll be at another location. The Gibson Guitar Theatre; that's really great. I hope we'll have a big crowd!

Thanks, Mike,

Laney

Mike,

Thanks for letting me share the stage with you and Rusty. It was all my pleasure and I hope we can do it again. And yes Miss Laney was in fine voice as always. Looking forward to the October jam as well.

Where to start? Let's see. . . how about. . .I guess I'm speechless.

Laney, you don't know me, but I'm definitely "under your spell again". That was the most beautiful rendition I have ever heard of that song. Where did you get the idea to make it a ballad? It works so well, and you did an absolutely beautiful job.

Oh, yeah. There were some steel players there, too.

Hi Randal,
Thanks for such a compliment, but, hold that thought....til you hear the "original" ballad rendition of "Under Your Spell Again" recorded by Barbara Fairchild. You'll never hear a more beautiful version of that song. The arrangement and her purely perfect voice still haunt me today. I completely wore out that album, called "Mississippi".

I really appreciate the post, though. And, I do love to sing that song.

Thanks for the information, Laney. I'll see if I can find that album. (I doubt if she does it better than you, though.)

BTW, I was the guy sitting stage right, with grey hair, grey beard. Think Kenny Rogers or Santa Claus. I've been called both. Very Happy (My brother looks so much like KR that he's been asked for his autograph in restaurants. He tells them he's not Kenny and they won't believe him.)

This was my first jam and I had a really great time. Enjoyed all the playing, especially Doug J., and the 3 steels really blew me away. I'm really looking forward to the next one. Hopefully by then, I'll be playing better, if not looking better.
