Anyone remember what settings they used on a session 500? I just ended up with one and I get a pretty good tone but would like a little better.Thank you in advance. |

John. One of the best amps you could ever have!
I have two of them, and dont think peavey will ever
build a better sounding amp than the 500.
My settings are.
Pre Gain 3-4
Low 15+
Paramid 3-
Shift 800
High 6+
Presence 3-6+
Post Gain 3-4
And as for reverb I use the Boss RV3, If you like the spring reverb that came with the amp set it on 7.
Hope this helps. Ronnie |

In the Pre=Pod era I think it was always Pre Gain=4 Post Gain=5 Sweep all the way left for the EQ. Low and Paramid at +3, and High and presence straight up sometimes adding a little presence. Reverb had to be at 10 to be heard and then it was too busy. Never liked the Reverb.
Now with the Podxt and xtLive they're all at 0. Gains the same.

I used one for about 12 years (and my right arm is longer than the left to prove I carried it around).
But basically I used the same EQ as I did on a Nashville 400 and what I now use on my Nashville 1000 and Nashville 112, as they all have the same basic EQ system.
Lows +9, Mid 800Hz and -2 to -3 on the cut, high and presence about +1.
Personally the best steel amp Peavey built, just so damn heavy. The effects loop on the back panel is line level so you can use the rack type line level effect units such as the lexicon's, G-Major, etc. |

I've never understood anyone using "standard" amp settings all the time. I find that every venue has its own quirks - wood floors, carpet, parallel walls, non-reflective surfaces, acoustic treatments, crowd configuration, and size are just some. I change amp settings literally every gig based on the room - because a "locked" group of settings will sound great one place, and terrible in another.
In other words, if you set an amp for "a" sound, that sound won't exist in the next place you play! _________________ No chops, but great tone

The best setting for a Session 500 is on a strong set of casters! |

Thanks for the info guys. I was just looking for a starting point not a concrete setting. As far as the weight, it really does not bother me. Thanks Again. |

Order you some Burr-Brown 2604 chips from Ken Fox, Makes a new amp out of the big monster.
I use mine with a Podxt or Lexicon.About as good as you can get if you have some strong healthy friends.
