??? for Uni Players

I use the exact same set up as Jeff Newman used,,,7 pedals and 4 knees (2 right knees and 1 left knee plus the "up" lever),,,I also use the Day set up as did he. He didn't use a LKR because it might get in the way of left leg mobility,,,and he often told me he didn't feel another change was needed (as his playing demonstrated).I'm getting another Kline and thinking I might like to hook up a LKR,,just to have it,,,any suggestions on which change could be added that would benefit the tuning???

I don't know if the Kline can handle it but I'd try putting either the Franklin change on there or raising both the 9th and 10th strings a step and a half. Both very handy and musical changes.

Sonny, I'd put a lever on LKR which lowered the 2nd string to D and lowered the 8th string to D. I tried that change of Jeff's where he raised the 9th string B to D but found it more useful lowering the 8th string instead. Also having it on LKR you can take your floor pedal which lowers the 8th string to D and raises your lowered 4th string back to E and do something else with it......JH in Va.

Jerry-Your suggestion is a good idea. that way the P7 and P5 can be played with the left foot together when needed. Then no need for both feet on the pedals . Lots of guys are doing that these days....al.:)

Sonny, I am currently playing E9/B6th universal tuning. Jeff and I were dear freinds and neighbors for many years and he is the one who made us all aware of this tuning. Having said all that, His set-up is what worked for him. The statement that no other changes are needed or that the LKR can't be used apply to HIM. You can do what ever you want to do or what ever works for you. Mine is E9th/B6th on steroids. I have 9 pedals and 9 knee levers working on the same neck. I don't try to get most of the E9th and some C6th, I want it all. This is working for me. My back neck is E13th with no pedals. There are many things you could consider adding to the LKR. The Franklin pedal is one. Raising the first one tone and the second a half along with lowering the sixth one tone is a better choice in my opinion.

Hey Johnny,,,thanks for chiming in on this,,your opinion is VERY much appreciated!!,,,but 9 pedals and 9 knees,,,I can't even count that high,,,but now if you would give me a few lessons,,,well,,,??? LOL,,, Seriously,,,I had no idea you were into that tuning. And the E13 on the back neck with no pedals??? seems like with all the pedal changes on the front neck there would be 1 or 2 that would put you into E13,,so you could just cut the back neck off and throw it away,,,LOL.

Sonny, on my triple neck Zum I have pedals on the E 13th. I just like the Morrell approach. BTW, I'll be in your neck of the woods this Saturday. I'm playing with Darrell McCall at Trey's Country in San Antonio. Bring Wanda and come on by if you can. We play from 9 pm to 1 am.

I know what Jeff (RIP) meant about LKR getting in the way of the C6 pedals.
However, I couldn't live without the split tuning on string 6 which, in my case, LKR + P2 gives me.
e.g. G# to G for a Minor Chord from the primary/no-pedals position.

Therefore I'm ...
String 6 Split with LKR
E Raises with LKL
E Lowers with RKR
7th Chord (e.g. B to D string 9) with RKL
Franklin Change with Pedal 0

Without losing the Boo-Wah (pedal 4), I'm not sure where
one would put the String 6 Split if not on LKR ( in my case )

Make sense ?
