Just had the amp serviced, new caps, a couple of tubes and everything cleaned. Twice, while playing, volume went down to zero and went back up. Now is has a slight distorsion that does not change with the volume level. Any ideas as to whats wrong? Thanks |

Sounds like a cold solder joint or bad connection. Did the tech re-tension the tube sockets? That's a necessity with older tube amps. As far as what you can try, you could feed some programming through it, and then wiggle tubes or work controls to see if that does anything. If not, take it back to the tech. |

Probably cold solder joint or hairline crack on the circuit board. Had a Super Twin that did the same thing, hairline crack was the problem.

I'm with Donny.. probably a cold solder joint. If I were you, I'd be looking at the feedback resistor, near the phase inverter section. |

Thanks for the replies. It's going back to the tech tomorrow. I messed with the tubes, and no change. Sonny, was the board repairable or did it have to be replaced? And do you recall how much $$$ ? Thanks |

Jerry, it was repairable. Not that big a deal, pretty much the same as a cold solder joint. The traces in the area of the tube sockets just sometimes lift a little bit or crack a bit. The cost for that would probably be equal to the amount your tech charges for 1 to 1 1/2 hours of bench time. _________________ Sonny Morris sjm227@hotmail.com |
