Proper way to package a NV-400

I am getting ready to pack and ship a NV 400. I have heard that packing peanuts are not considered gooed enough and insurance will not cover the amp if damaged. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Dustin, I'm not a pro at packaging, but I do know that for an amp, or steel, you should use bubble wrap, a double layer, on the case/amp, and double box it with bubble wrap, single layer, on the inner box also. Some even remove the speaker and ship it separately. (a good fall and the baffle board can rip loose).

I've heard it's good to also put a piece of 1/4 inch plywood over the speaker grill to prevent punctures. Make sure it's a tight fit inside the boxes with no movement.

I'm sure the other guys that are shipping pros will chime in and give you the whole lowdown.

Just thought I'd toss you a "bone" to get ya' thinkin'.

I like the idea of 1/4" plywood front and back = cheap insurance. Also if there is a music store close by, you may be able to pick up a factory shipping box that the amp will fit.

Bubble wrap immediately next to the amp itself may be a good idea, but you need to use something to hold the amp in position, like very thick styrofoam, maybe at the corners, leaving at least 2" on all sides between the amp and the box it is in. Never use peanuts for heavy items.

Last week I shipped two amps one was a Vegas 400 the other was a Fender DeVille. I was told by UPS that they required two inches of packaging around the entire amp. And to leave the box open so they could inspect the packaging. All this because I wanted additional insurance. Apparently if you don't want additional insurance you could pack it in a garbage bag. The bottom line is to check with the carrier you intend to use for their packaging specification before you spend any time or money packaging a heavey item.
