I am thinking of getting one of these classic MOTS Magnatone steels. All the ones I've played have sounded great.

Why do I want one of these?... Travel reasons. I bet this guitar would fit easily into my suitcase when I fly. Just wrap it in bubble-wrap or clothing. No need to worry about carrying an instrument into the cabin.

Can someone who owns one of these send me the dimensions? The only dimension I need is the length of the guitar.

29" x 8" x 2.5" feather lite.
I used to take one of these along on business road trips for the same reason.
The older versions (Dickerson, Oahu and Bronson) from the late 30's are even smaller and travel real well.

Good idea. A $35 Danelectro mini Honeytone amp tucked beside it and you are ready to conquer the earth.

Actually, my Vox DA5 battery powered amp is a veteran of my suitcase. It easily packs and takes up little room.

When I get to my hotel and open my suitcase there is always a note from the TSA stating that they inspected my bag. The amp must look pretty suspicious under the Xray.

Gerald,

Go for it. I have the same one as pictured. Super light, great sound, and the tuners hold pitch pretty well.

I've already took mine to Japan and Maui and it fits right into my Samsonite luggage. Get one of those ukulele bags, they save more space, it's lighter, and you can sling them around your shoulder freeing up your hands to carry the Vox.

The only thing negative I can say about this guitar is that it's more difficult to change the pots because the cavity that houses them are small.

Gerald,
If you can find a 'Varsity' model for not too much more money, there won't be as much MOTS-threatening surgery needed, if any pickup work has to be done. The pickup is embedded in a block of wood, which is covered in more MOTS but screwed onto the face of the guitar, under the chrome cover. Plus you get a little more decorative space-age plastic on the headstock and finger-rest.

Hi Gerald......that was my very first lap steel, given to me by a friend who was in the Serendipity Singers back in the early 70s.......Ameraloha is what it says on the keyhead....it came with a Nick Manoloff green bar......this little thing is light, small, and it howls......takes a beating also.....I still have it......
