Aloha all,
I have acquired a 6 string Kalina lap steel used by The Harlen Bros. as a training instrument for their students. I have replaced the hard wired cord with a standard 1/4" jack, and thinking about changing the Supro style bridge plate. I would bring the strings through the body, and cut the bridge flange off, replacing it with a 1/2" dia. stainless rod. It seems this would help the tone, and decrease the strain on the strings via the sharp edged bridge flange, any comments or guidance?
It is tned to C6 currently, but have tried A6 for awhile with nice results.

Hi Phil Sounds like a nice project. As for the bridge, the rod should work OK. The National Newyorker has a very sharp edge on the bridge, which seems to work OK also. You will just have to try it
Nice to see you on the forum.
Best regards BILL |
