Tom Morrell tribute on "Swingin' West" all month
The May edition of the recorded continuous airing of "Swingin' West" has just come up on the Internet on twangtownusa.com. It will be on 24 hours a day seven days a week, over and over, for the entire month.
The theme for this month, May, is a tribute to recently deceased Steel Guitar legend Tom Morrell. You will hear Tom playing steel behind such stars as Craig Chambers, Jean Prescott, Chris O’Connell and Brady Bowen and his Swing Country doing a Bob Wills, Joe Andrews composition that Joe sang with the Wills band in the 1960s.
You will also hear Tom’s playing on recordings by Nolan Bruce Allen, Bobby Boatright, the great Leon Rausch, John Stout (with a Lou Rochelle/Doodle Owens gem) and Joe Paul Nichols doing one of Chuck Cusimano’s great compositions.
Tom is heard playing steel on recordings of both Roland Davis and Tony Ramsey doing Spade Cooley classics and with Roy Lee Brown paying tribute to brother Milton from one of Johnny Case’s Priority label gems. Bob Wills’ talented niece Dayna, fiddle legend Curly Lewis and Fiddlin’ Walt Roberts are also heard with the Tom Morrell steel on their recordings.
The recorded edition of "Swingin' West" can always be heard by clicking the mouse on the appropriate spot on the bottom of the home page of the "Swingin' West" web site, www.swinginwest.com
Thank You!

Bob,
Tom is not on this but many members of his band (Time-Warp Tophands)can be seen along with the twin steels of Herby Wallace and Hal Rugg at the Western Swing Festival in Snyder, Texas a few years back. As far as I know Herby has this only as a VHS tape.
I do know that Tom also did some stuff that was video taped at about the same time but was never issued. From what I heard Wolf had the only copy. This would be a fantastic find for fans of these three steel legends.

Tom Morrell dvd
Thanks, Mike. I do have that vhs and remember Herby complimenting Tom, who evidently had just finished his set. I had hoped that Tom's set was out there somewhere on tape!

Jody,
Thanks so very much for those well appreciated complimentary words.
Bob,
I spoke with Herby one time about it and he said that Tom had the original and that there were no other copies around. He was hoping that Tom would release it or allow others to do so. I wrote to Tom about making it available but I am sure that we was preoccupied with other things.
