Hi all!
I'm a new member but frequent looker here. I acquired an old ShoBud in a trade for a six string, but I'm not sure what I have. I thought I would post a few pictures and get some opinions. I can't play the thing a lick but I try anyway. I may end up selling it for another, and I'd just like to get an idea what it is and whats a fair price. It's easier to understand algebra than playing this machine.

It looks to be a poorly refinished ProII, with the C6th neck taken off and replaced with a pad like an LDG. I hope you got the rest of the parts in the trade. If you're going to sell, please keep me in mind. Good Luck... Bill

Looks like a Crossover that someone's made into a SD10, with a replacement black and white fretboard.

You have an old crossover model that's had the back neck removed, and the pedal bar cut down, removing three floor pedals. The hole to the left on the rear apron was where the crossover switch was. Can't tell from the pics, is there only one knee lever, or have more been added? It should have excellent tone, as long as it hasn't been whacked up too badly.

Looks very nice...

Thanks for all the help guys. It does have excellent tone to my ear and seems to play in tune operate correctly.
There is only one knee lever on it, bit it looks like theres drillings for a lot more.

I didn't get any other parts with it except a case, a bar and some picks.

I don't think it's been refinished, but I could be wrong. It has beautiful birdseye maple on the front.

Wow Bob thats something. I cant find any initials, but I did find the numbers 7182 stamped into the wood and frame right next to each other. What would you guys say is a fair value for one of these?

Thats for sure a converted Crossover, I have had a couple of those & would recognize it anywhere! It might not be quite so heave without the back neck & hardware. But the ones that I have had, had great tone. I would keep it & learn how to play a few licks. I started out on one of em.

You've only been here a day, but I hate you already. Wink

You're going to get offers to releive you of the steel, but it looks like a beginner's instrument extrordinaire.

Welcome.

It looks like pretty cool guitar, but sooner or later (sooner) you're going to need more knee levers. You might want to think about having them added now rather than waiting.

I had a Sho-Bud Baldwin crossover, and I think that Skip, Mikey and Ernie are right. This is probably a cannibalized, refinished crossover. A look at the underside would prove it.

I'd place its current value at about $750. I wouldn't pay more than that for it.

The black endplates and frame alone give it away as a former Crossover model. Weren't they the only Sho~Bud models to have black endplates? I'm curious as hell to see the undercarriage.

One thing I'd bet money on...........it sounds heavenly. I had a Baldwin D-10 (non-crossover) from this era and it sounded HUGE. (The one I'm playing in my avatar.) I've been wanting one back ever since, but not an actual Crossover because of the headache. A nice SD10 with a Coop conversion would, in my opinion, spit out the most heavenly of tones.

That decal is not original, is it? I thought all Sho~Buds had the decal under the finish?

It looks like the sticker from the front of the clip-on Sho-Bud volume pedals.

Hi Steve,

These guys are as knowledgeable and HONEST as they come.

If possible, I suggest also adding some "close-up" pics of the finish so they can give you a realistic $ value of the guitar.

Best regards,

Dennis

I am strongly leaning in that direction William. I think I'll take it over to Mr. Bradshaw in Concord and have him give it a going over. The more I learn about this Steel Guitar, the more interesting it becomes. I'll have to seek out a teacher in the bay area. Anyone know of one?

You got a beauty there, Steve. Three standard pedals and lower the "E's" with that knee, and you can play a lot of good stuff! Or, if you don't want it, you can send it to me...

Am I imagining this or is that pedal rack the same as a Miller rack?

Hmmmm I think you may be right. I played around with a S10 3&1 Miller one time and that does look familiar now that you mention it....

That's the same type of rack that was on my Baldwin, although this one is of course cut down to fit only three pedals.
