David Doggett has asked me to sit in for him on his regular gig with the Philadelphia Blues Messengers this coming Thursday night (5/10) at The Blue Sky Cafe, which is at 114 W. Germantown Pike (in the Hillcrest Shopping Plaza), East Norriton, PA (which is near Plymouth Meeting, just outside of Philadelphia). Tel: 610.275.3407.
Now, I figured if it's fun to have a steel in the band, what fun it would be to have TWO steels in the band, and as it turns out, the legendary Lucky Oceans happens to be back in town from Australia, visiting his family and is available to join us! What fun this will be!
The band features Philadelphia saxophone legend Byard Lancaster and awesome percussionist and didgeridoo player, Harold Smith. From what I hear, it starts out with Chicago blues and then heads off into the ozone. This is gonna get interesting... We'll be playing from 9pm to about midnight. I hear they serve great Caribbean food there too, so come hungry. (By the way, I think I read it's a cash-only joint.)
Here's the link to the band's website: www.thebluesmessengers.com
Hope to see some Forumites there! Come watch me steel as many of Lucky's licks as I can in a 3-hour gig.

Hey, thanks to all the Forumites who came by the club for the gig last night. That was FUN!
Lucky and I are gonna do a tune or two tomorrow (or is it already 'today'?) at the steel show in Vienna, VA. See ya's there!

p.s. Oh, and Ray, no, we didn't play 'Together Again', but we almost played Mansion on the Hill... and then thought better of it. |
