I was listening to see how he'd changed the words. They sound the same as the Hank Williams version to me.

I've always been a Ricky Nelson fan. The Ozzie & Harriet Show wasn't shown in England, so Ricky became very popular over there without having to live down his little boy image

My album shows the title as "My Bucket's Got a Hole In It."

Hank Williams wrote and sang "I can't buy no beer" as the last line of the chorus. I remember reading that Hank himself was ordered to change that line when he sang it on the Grand Ole Opry. As the story goes, the song was a big hit on the radio at the time. Everyone already knew the lyrics. When the line came around, Hank loudly exaggerated "MILK" for the last word, cracking everyone up.

Now I get what you're saying, "My bucket's got a hole in it, it don't work no more", compared to "My bucket's got a hole in it, I can't buy no beer."

Since I've had both records for as long as I can remember, I didn't notice that until you pointed it out. Embarassed Embarassed

They did the same thing with Bill Haley's Shake Rattle and Roll: he always used to sing the original risque version until he came to record it and the record producer tamed it down. Later in his career he recorded both. Wink Elvis followed suit by recording the Bill Haley version. Of course, Elvis was one of Bill's prodiges.

Come to think of it, they did the same thing with Elvis's "One Night of Sin", which they changed to "One Night With You" Shocked

Considering what people get away with nowadays, those were innocent times !

My thought too Scott. There's a good dvd about Rick done by his kids with clips from the show doing songs, and interviews with James burton. I showed it to my sister and her 16 year old daughter, who had never seen or heard of Rick Nelson before and she was in love with Rick and his youngest son who looks just like him. The 3 sons do a great acoustic version of Garden Party.
