I just got the Walker Stereo Steel Preamp, and it's wonderful. Really fattened up the sound and it gives you so much control. I'm running through a Nashville 400.(power amp section only) Now I'm thinking of popping a single space amp into the rack, but it's got to be clean, 'no point in messing up a great sound. 'Guess I'd need 100 watts, and frankly I'd want to stay
below $300 if possible...$400 tops. I've only heard the MosValve unit. I don't want to buy a dozen amps to find a good one. So I'm asking my pickin' brothers what works. I'd like a few suggestions for mono and a few for stereo. Thanks

Kevin mentioned the Tube Works 962 which is a two space amp. They also made the Mosvalve 982, which is the same amp in a one space configturation. Both of these amps are two channel or stereo.

Peavey also builds some excellent amps in a one space configuration.

Ken it looks like Jay has about the best choice for ya. I have two of the SLA 2's by ART, and they are heavy, but a great amp. Peavey only has one single space power amp and it's the DCP 4 it's over kill really, light but sells for $1,299.99. Your other choices are depending on the power you need, a little carvin DCM150 great little amp 75 W into 4 ohms for $239.99, an American Audio VLP-300, 150W RMS into 4 ohms $159.99, or a SoundTech PS 802, 400W RMS into 4ohms, $529.98. That's just about all that's out there that i would buy. Good luck, if i can be of any further help just drop me a line.

Ken,
Do a search on e-bay for "Tube Works" or "Peavey amp" and you will come up with a lot of amps in the less than $300-$400 range.

Yeah, the SLA-2 is only $279 brand new (free shipping) Exclamation
It is about 8 lbs. more than a Stewart, but the amp cabinet I'm using it in isn't
a typical rack set up and the (super quiet) fan keeps it real cooool.
The Stewart single space amp uses convection cooling only. Crying or Very sad

$300 is the new price point for decent power amps, it seems - the Crown XLS202, Samson SX1200, ART RA300, Peavey PV900, the Alesis SLA2.... I know that they're (mostly?) Chinese, but Sweetwater carries them, and they've got pretty high standards. As far as bang-for-the-buck musical equipment, this is the best time in history to be alive.

Wow!....Thanks guys for great info. I've borrowed a Fender SPA3000 from my teacher. 'Sounds fine, but it's heavy and deep, too deep even for most racks. I'll keep checking Craigslist and try a Carvin DCM150 and a MosValve (single space) and whatever I can find from your pile of suggestions. At least one person I've talked to suggested that some ART products (effects racks) were not quiet, but I'll have to find out for myself. Thanks again for all the great suggestions. 'Guess I'll let this run for a bit to see what else gets added.

I use a single rack mounted ADA MicroTube 200 which has two 12ax7 tubes in it(1 per channel)which gives a great warm tube sound. It is fan cooled and quiet compared to the DPC750 I had.
They are very had to find but they do show up on Ebay now and then. It is the 2nd one I've owned and love them.

Don your right about the fan noise from the DPC750 - it is quite loud, but then I can play a lot louder than the fan can, so I can't hear it when I'm playing ha !!!
