On George Strait's song "Faults and all" Buddy Emmons is playing what sounds like a pedal dobro - and it sounds fantastic. Is it the real thing, or is it a stomp box? There's a bit of delay on it, so it's hard to tell. Anyone who knows?

I don’t remember the title of the song but I did play on one of George’s tunes using a prototype unit later to be called the Goodrich Match Bro. It was an EQ Dobro simulated sound I submitted to Mr. Goodrich to incorporate into his Match Box circuitry.

And the next thing you know, you are clipped to the leg of my guitar. I had someone (a pro) who was not particularly familiar with my Matchbro sneer at my mention of your name in connection with at (and printed on it) with a 'yeah, right' sort of attitude. I said no, I'm pretty sure that's legit. And now you confirm it. Man, jealousy is a weird thing.

What I appreciate (among other things concerning Mr. Emmons) is Mr. Emmons willingness to be a part of a product trial.

Hey Buddy, didn't you play a Pedabro on a couple of John Andersons tunes? I could've swore you did!

Wow, a reply straight from the source, my all-time hero. I'm not worthy!!!
Seriously, I really appreciate that you took the time to answer my question. Many thanks, Mr E.

To celebrate, I'll go through my i-tunes playlist to find "Bottle baby boogie" and the other gems from your Bob Wills album, so I can enjoy your playing AND singing.

Per, In Benton, Illinois a couple weeks back, I was one of about a dozen people to have the honor of singing back-up on "Four or Five Times".

Bob… I played a 6 string Dobro on the John Anderson session using a Lavalier microphone plugged into a Digitech harmonizer. The harmonizer was set for three part harmony and the use of it was controlled by a volume pedal plugged into the back of the Digitech. When the volume pedal was down, I could integrate the harmonies into the Dobro single note sound and when up, I could use the Dobro as I normally would.

Another feature I found on the harmonizer was its ability to gliss the two harmony notes up or down an octave. My starting point was the two adjustable notes set to the same pitch as the steel note (for example, a B note). I then set one of the harmony notes to gliss upward from a fifth to a tonic note (E), and the other down to a third (G#). With a volume control in the back of the Digitech I could play one note, press down on the pedal, and send the unison sound glissing in opposite directions to a 2nd inversion E triad. It was too much of a synthetic sound to my ear so I rarely used it, but the spreading effect would blow your mind.

I'm going from memory here, which is always risky.

I seem to recall my copy of the "Holding My Own" CD with that song on there. I think its credits list Paul Franklin for steel and "dobro simulator". I once asked Paul to describe more about the simulator and he said he'd never recorded with one and that I was hearing a Pedabro.

I'm pretty sure it was that song, which I've always loved.

Buddy, HUH? All that went right over my head!! Shocked Would it have just been easier to use a Pedabro for that effect? I wish I could remember the name of the song that I heard it in. Maybe someone else can remember the name. Have you ever played a Pedabro. If so, how do you like it?

Also, I heard that you were having problems with arthritis. But hearing and seeing you play on "You-Tube" it seems you have licked that problem. Have you found a "miracle-cure"? If you have, please share it with me. I'm just starting to have problems with it, and wouldn't you know it, it's starting in my right (picking) hand.
