Yup... Haven't had a steel in Tokyo in seven years. My good friend loaned me his unused single-neck MSA Vintage XL. Has your typical 3/4 Emmons setup and sounds great. I've always had a hard time playing single-neck guitars, but it works.

First thing up, is all the bad habits I have conquered over the years were present and accounted for from the beginning. Wheezing on the go pedal, spastic vibrato, the works.

I learned a long time ago is the trick to fixing these problems is -- gonna guess it? -- breathing! Yup... If I concentrate on my breathing, I can relax and let the instrument speak. Usually it says "The third string is flat..."

I also got my old Fender Custom back, but that's for another section.

Played all morning. Great fun!

Are you back in the states now, Tom, or still in Japan?

My cure for volume pedal "wheezing" was to take my foot off it. Try it sometime. Learn to play without a volume pedal. It will improve your hands, and you won't lean on the pedal so much when you hook it back up.

Thanks Bob-san... No, I'm still in Tokyo, but I hope to be back this summer for a spell. Yeah, I can fix the "problems" in my playing, just real surprised they showed up after all these years. Unwanted house guests... -L-
