Could someone let me know which shows in Branson still have steel players. Last time I went there, some of the shows I had liked before were using "canned" music (i.e. - Jim Owen show - before he had a super steel picker on the show). Thanks for your help. I am going out week after next... |

Bowie, check out the Baldkmobbers, a fine show with a great steel player, Roger Blevins. Be sure to pick up "Four of a Kind", a collection of steel by Roger, Terry Bethel, Tom Brumley and Dave Musgrave - good listening.
Also, go by the Moe Bandy show and say "howdy" to my good friend, John Clark, another "goodin(as in "steel player, boy, he's a goodin) |

Tom Brumley is playing a morning show (10 a.m.) with Cal Smith at the Caravelle. I'm going next Tuesday. I know they cancelled the Monday a.m. because my wife and I were turned away last Monday (thank goodness Janie Fricke was in town for a day show) I think they still have 5 morning shows a week. (But call them ahead of time because if they cancel a show, they will call you back ahead of time. |

Guy's don't fuss at me to much, but, about a month ago I was as asked to go play in Branson, for 7 weeks at one thousand plus 700 to practice each week . Had to turn it down, we have my sister and her husband with us now days and can't leave them by their selves because of health problems. I hated to turn it down, but to me family comes before a gig. To get a sitter would have took most of the cash so I think I made the best choice at the time. |

Thanks for the help. I try to see three shows a day when I am out there, but stay clear of those that don't have a steel. Ronnie Milsap will be there. Does anyone know if he is using a steel player?
Also, does anyone know if the RFD show at the old Ray Stevens theatre has a steel? |

Hi Bowie. There are still some great shows in the Branson area that have steel players. I am playing on the Gene Williams show, but we only tape once a month for TV. Check out when the next taping will be and hopefully you will be around for the show then. If you do catch one of the shows be sure and holler at me. Would love to say hi in person. _________________ Mullen Royal Precision D10 Red Lacquer Pearl inlay 8&8

Hello there, just thought you'd like to know that I'm also playing the "Joey Riley Show" at 2.00 pm at the Mickey Gilley Theater. Normally the days are Mon thru Sat. Through April and May call the theater to make sure when we're playing. Make sure and let me know when you're at the show, so we can visit. Thanks Tom |

Tom and Bob - that is great!! Joey Riley and Clay Cooper are the two shows we never miss!! I will be there week after next(May 8?) , coming in late Monday. We play this Saturday (a dance) and a festival show Sunday afternoon, then are off til the following Saturday (a festival), so it is a great time to make our annual trek out. Please keep me advised of any other shows with steel players...
I play with a part time band (Nancy & Tammy Dail & The Country Roads Band),but we do about 70-80 dates a year. We are lucky to have one of the few country "show bands" around here...check us out at
www.thecountryroadsband.com. See both of you guys that week. (Tom..Billy Knowles is a friend...you and I we have talked numerous times in Branson and St. Louis) |

Well, it's an acquired taste, isn't it!
Don't feel bad, though. I've been working on it since the 40's. |

Wow! Words from my all time favorite player, Tom Brumley. I can't make it up there until July, but if Tom is playing anytime during my trip I will definitely be there.
Last year I was able to visit with John Clark and even got to be on stage with Moe Bandy & John during one of their skits. Great fun indeed and super nice people. I unfortunately didn't get the chance to see Bob Hempker. Maybe this year I can correct that misfortune.

Hey Tom, sounds like you are real busy there in Branson, and you sure deserve to be. You might not remember me, but I hung out with you and your wife along with Doug Jernigan last year in Lesliville Alberta. Sure would be great to have you back in these parts sometime soon. How's the Annapeg guitar working? If I ever get to Branson I'll come and say hello!

The Wednesday night gang at the Honky Tonk Hideaway is the best show in Branson! It's a nice clean friendly little lounge. |
