Good morning Gentelmen. I was adjusting the tuning on my insterment the other day, using a SABINE CROMATIC TUNER my daughter gave me (She plays piano). Tuning was progressing fine until I started tuning the 2nd string [I left that untillast} my 2nd string in tuned D# with a have stop to D and and a full stop to C#. My problem is geting the half stop to D to stay in tune when I tune the full stop to C# and visa versa. In reading the [9TH STRING TOPIC] I noticed your discussion relating to the 2nd string because of the D on the 2nd and 9th strings and a full stop to c# on the 9th string and a full stop on the 2nd string to eather D# or C# but not both on the 2nd string. SO HERE IS THE QUESTION SHOULD I TUNE THE 2ND STRING TO D AND SET UP THE FULL STOP TO C# OR LEAVE THE 2ND STRING AT D# TUNE TO THE C# ON THE FULL STOP AND FORGIT THE HALF STOP AT D.

In looking over the tuning charts I have on file I see that the D/C# is rather standard.

I lower the 2nd stg D#-D on my RKL along with 9 stg lower D-C#, I lower 2nd stg D#-C# on LKR along with E-Eb on 4 and 8. I prefer to not use a 1/2 tone feel stop on the 2nd stg.

Jim, I like that arangement. How does that C# fet in with the Eb's on the 4th & 8th strings. are you able to tie it in for a chord arangement or a lick combination?

There is a seperate adjustment for each half of the half-stop. On most older guitars, the half-stop (D)was adjusted from somewhere under the guitar. Some modern ones have both the D and the D# tweakable at the end plate. Just flip the guitar over and follow the linkage - you'll find it.I'm not a fan of lowering the 2nd string with the E>D# lever because it limits the combinations you can get if it's on it's own lever. Some guys do it out of expedience and are perfectly happy living with the limitations however.
