This is just a thought...and I've thought about it for a couple of years. I don't even know how we would do it, but I'm sure it would need an administrator of some kind.

Over the years I've notice that many No Peddlers Forum Members are asking questions regarding various lap steel guitars and how they look. What are the differences between model A & B?

With all of the photos available on the internet, ebay, and from the personal collections of Forum Members, I think it would be really cool if No Peddlers started a digital photo database of lap steel guitars which Forum members could refer to.

We've all seen really rare lap steels online. Wouldn't it be great to have those photos available to Forum Members as research material? I think it would be incredible if we could document the entire history of non-pedal lap steel guitar in digital photos (and commentary, of course) which we could all refer to.

Any thoughts about this Forum Members?

This would be a wonderful, useful references for players and collectors. Screen resolution is only 72 dpi. The designer in me has a pipe dream for a hard-bound, coffee-table book that would be encyclopedic in scope and feature high-resolution, 300-600 dpi photos. The realities of the publishing world preclude that, so an on-line database is the next best thing.

I'd have a few photos to contribute. All it will take is for someone to make this happen. Which, as is well known by anyone who has made something like this happen, ain't easy----it takes know-how, time, resources, some $$ and infinite patience to hold the hands of people who don't know how to take & send photos (no problem--easy to learn, if that person is actually interested in learning).
It'll be an excellent project if someone goes for it and I'll be happy to contribute to the data base and to use it.

I have quite a few pictures here. I haven't been able to find the time to compile full details on all of them, and of course there are mis-named and duplicate files.

I would like to thank everyone who has responded to my post.

First, of course, this is b0b's site, and he has the final say in this matter. Second, I would like to thank Brad Bechtel for posting all of the great pics of lap steels.

OK, let's say hypothetically, there was a link right below No Peddlers for a lap steel photo database. If for example, Brad posted all of his photo links there, then that would be a start. Since Brad hasn't had time to compile full details on them, Forum members could write about the instruments they know in detail, and all Brad would have to do is post them along with the jpeg's. Ultimately, there would just be a link for example, "Fender Deluxe 8" with jpegs and text. If there are errors, Forum members could respond.

For example, let's say there's a link with several jpeg's of a Fender Deluxe. Forum members could email Brad text and he could post it beneath the photos. And with digital photo's, if Forum members can shoot better pictures than what is available, Brad could add them to the database.

I'm not a computer expert, so I'm only speaking as a member. Basically, after seeing that Brad was able to post his extensive photo collection, I believe this is do-able. If No Peddlers members are willing to write the text about instruments they know and send in additional photos, we would have a great database.

Any comments from b0b and Brad would be appreciated. If there's enough disk space, I think this would be a great interactive project for No Peddlers members.

Since we're the Steel Guitar Forum, I think that a database like this should be on our site. Any more comments or input from members would be appreciated.

If it's on this website, or linked to it, it should also include pedal steels and acoustic steels such as Weissenborn.
