I recorded 5 little samples of my guitars.
1. Fessenden D-10 2003 mod.
2. Emmons LeGrande II SD-10 2000 mod.
3. Emmons PushPull D-10 1978 mod.
Guitar - PODXT - computer. Some reverb, I only changed the treble from guitar to guitar. Can you guess the order of the guitars? MP3 so the sound quality might be bad...

I know this answer is not what you want, but I cannot hear ANY difference in the 3 examples.
I will say, It did sound like the same PLAYER....LOL

The Fessy has BL710, stock single coil on the Emmons guitars. I can't hear much difference either...... _________________ Emmons D-10 P/P 78", Franklin D-10, Zum Encore. Sho-Bud LDG |

I too voted for the second choice. Legrande, PushPull, Fessy. _________________ ----------------------------------

The first sounds LeGrande-ish", the middle ones sound "Fessenden-ish", and the last ones sound a little "Push/Pull-ish". But sound-wise and tone-wise, they're pretty much identical. |

Yes, they're all very close, but it's the pickups that set them apart.
The BL pickup (in the Fessenden) has a characteristic thinness that's most noticeable on the attack of some of the higher strings. I'm guessing the BL-equipped Fessenden was the 2nd of the 3 guitars in the sound sample?
As for the two Emmons guitars with stock single coil pickups... they sounded too similar for me to say which is which. However, when sitting behind each, I bet the PLAYER could notice the subtleties that define a P/P... even if the listeners could not. |

You need a narrative to say which is which. There are a large number of small clips, and I don't know how to distinguish them by name. I did notice tone differences, though. |

I voted for #3 - P/P, Fessenden, Legrande. I hear something about the midrange in clip 2 that says Lawrence pickup. There's also something striking about clip 1. Initially I thought #2, Legrande, P/P, Fessenden, but then saw the pickup info and tried to listen closer.
But I completely agree with others who argue there is precious little difference between these clips. The differences are very subtle, to the point where I don't have much confidence in my guess. Pretty amazing - just a little treble EQ tweaking, eh? |

I get a page that contains the message "Loading file info. Please wait." I wait and nothing happens. Am I missing a plug-in or something? (After that message there's a link that says "Don't like waiting?" When I click on that nothing happens either.) I do have scripts enabled. |

That 3rd lick on your test is really sweet. Do you have it tabbed out? If so can you post it here?...Thanks |

I got it right without peeking! Honest!
Fine playing and they all sound good, but to me the p/p stands out as being a bit richer and sweeter - just as expected. But that's perhaps partly because its output seems to be a little higher compared to the other two. |

Finally heard it by switching to IE. I avoided seeing the answer before listening. I guessed sample #1 was the push-pull, no idea between the other two. A bit more what I'd call "clarity" on sample #1. But, like everyone, I found very little difference! They all sound good. For the record, I've never owned, or, so far as I can recall, even played a push-pull, so my guess was based entirely on recordings that I know (or think I know) are a push-pull and the things people have said about push-pulls here on the Forum.
Changing the treble for the different guitars seems like it invalidates the test, though. If they're not all played through the same settings, how is the listener to know what differences come from the guitar and which from the amp? |
