I love the sound of movement in pedal steel. Counterpoint licks are the essence of this sound. I would love to see some tab of different licks. Even better would be a course in counterpoint..

I believe Rick Kornacker has a counterpoint course:

Rick's Counterpoint study was good for me.

As all the material I've bought from.

he's at www.steppingstonemusic.com

Here's one of my favorite C/P licks.

Standard Music Notation really shows how the C/P works.
It's not easy to see in Tab.

Actually only the first measure of this lick is C/P, then the notes meet and do a descending parallel thirds phrase.

Very Effective!

Thanks Lee, I just printed out all six pages of them, so I can study them later. Joey, I printed yours out also. Sometimes, I get a bug to learn some different technique and this will fit the bill. Thanks Larry

Paul Franklin does some nice counterpoint stuff on the video he has out, and explains how he does it and the music theory behind it - very helpful.

Steve, I agree, I love these kind of phrases too. I printed Joey's lick and Lee's thread and am working on all of those beatiful licks. I am a severe newbee on steel but, here is a simple counterpointyish lick in the key of F that I found and didnt see in the other section. Maybe another newbee might like this. It uses the 2nd string half step and whole step lower. It starts as ascending 3rds and then splits direction at the end resolving to a 6th interval. I hope this works and I hope the tab is readable.
