Hi everyone,
I'm just back from twelve days in Portugal, where I (apart from being on vacation) came up with two new little lap slide pieces. Thanks to Christiaan Oyens for introducing me to the Bmaj7 tuning (low to high: B-F#-B-Eb-Bb-B) - as soon as I had tuned up this little thing jumped out of my guitar:
Alfama
I hope you will like it! Any comments/feedback/criticism would be much appreciated, as you know I'm new to this instrument (that just keeps getting more and more fascinating!).
The recording process was somewhat unorthodox: I wanted to record the song straight away after writing it, and I didn't want to disturb anyone's sleep in my sister-in-law's apartment (it was in the middle of the night), so I took to the streets of Lisbon.  I sat myself down on some old stone stairs in Alfama (the part of Lisbon where we stayed - all narrow alleys and winding stairs), taped my microphone to a chair I'd brought along, and played. I put the (Sony stereo) mic very close to the guitar, as I was picking softly with my bare fingertips and was competing with Lisbon Council's nocturnal rubbish collectors for attention (you can hear them rolling their bins on the cobbled streets on the recording!). 
I used my 1930s Oahu with Newtone strings (that handled the low pitch very well) - I think it sounds really good in this tuning.

Hey Fred, thanks for sharing the tune and the tuning. Maybe you'll continue to record your discoveries in various outdoor settings...seriously, that "ambient" element throws something cinematic into the mix-- I kinda dug it.

| It's an interesting tuning, Fred. I've been playing around with it too. The first thing that came out when I put the Weissenborn in this tuning was Girl From Ipanema - but reharmonized with really intersting, somewhat dissonant voicings. Lots of possibilites here from changing just one string. |
