If anyone knows any Pedal Steel Guitar teachers near Traverse City, Michigan,I would be very grateful for a contact. Learning pedal steel on your own can be a pain some times and it would be nice to meet someone who could help.
Keith

This post looks oddly reminiscent of one about a year ago, wherein another fellow was moving (back) to Traverse City and looking for a steel teacher. I can't recall his name right now but I know he had gotten a job as manager of the Interlochen book store so you might try to track him down and you guys could get together. Good luck.

Hey Keith, check out the online steelers directory for steelers in your area, email em and ask if they give lessons. You can find a link to the directory here in Lee's thread.

Keith-I used to teach guitar and steel in Traverse City, Petoskey, Cheboygan and Rogers City, all in Michigan but that was long ago.

As Jack Klien mentioned , Bob Wright is a super player in TC. Butch Broad plays in Traverse, and Jerry Hendrix. Any one of them could help you get going.

I don't teach professionally anymore, but would be glad to offer help I can to a fellow steel player. Send me a Email...al.SmileSmile

I talk with Mr. Hunter about a week ago and said he had no luck with finding a teacher and is no better Player then he was a year ago.
Jerry Hendrix and I exchange e-mails often and is a extremely nice guy, I feel though he is a very busy guy and dose not have time to give me any lessons.
Jim Eller I wish you still lived in Alpena Because I grew up there and went to school with Jason And I e-mailed him this last year and he said you were in Tenn. now.
Guys.. I am really working on meeting someone who could just show me a little... I am now going to talk with some people over in Alpena who play. Laughing

Keith,

There is also a guy named Larry Golbeck that plays pretty well in Alpena.

Keith,

Call Danny Hullihen in Harrison, MI @ his store 989-539-4715, this is steel guitar central for MI and you need to pay Danny a visit. I second the suggestion on Bob Wright, he is an accomplished player. Clayton Lyons also know lots of MI steelers, I am in Utah and away from my Rolodex of phone #'s.

I will be playing the Traverse City Opera House
Friday, May 11 with Seth Bernard and Daisy May. Maybe we can meet then.

cheers,
Drew
