- worth the $2k for a total rehab? (got $1500 in already)

Interesting question. Seems your choices are:
1. Sell it honestly as is at a reduced price to someone who wants it as a project.
2. Keep it as is, try to repair the crack between the necks, and do any piecemeal repair and adjustment the mechanics need. Just accept it as an ole war horse with history.
3. Do the $2000 complete modern rehab, repair the body and apron and possibly refinish, and have a $3500-$4000 modded vintage masterpiece. You have it in front of you. Only you can say if the apron and body are repairable enough to make this option worthwhile. I think the rest of us would like to know if a body that far gone can be adequately repaired to make the modern mechanical rehab worthwhile.

And by the way, if the guy is out of work, he's probably already spent the money and no longer has it to refund you even if he wanted to. That's no excuse, but is probably the reality.

Going by the photo you posted, the cracks are only the beginning of what I'd be pissed about. The undercarriage parts themselves are rusted and corroded.....not acceptable, if he didn't accurately portray this in photos.
I really feel for you, Brian. Hopefully there can be a resolution that sees you compensated somehow.

Brian, if you're not familiar with John Coop, I'd say when he says it can be repaired, believe it! You should definitely talk to him about it. I've gotten a few of his world-class parts, and his reputation on the Forum is beyond sterling.

Brian, this sucks. That's an ugly picture. I remember that guitar, and it sounded like a great deal. I'm sorry this happened. I will say that I have had so many postive experiences on this forum, and have had the blessing of meeting really quality people. I have done some good buying and selling here, where every one is happy, and every one I've dealt with has been concerned that everyone is happy. That's the way it should be. In this place we support each other and help each other.

I guess we need to take the unsolicited references some people offer on these 'for sale' threads with a pinch of salt, unless we personally know the people making the reference, eh?!

I am counting myself very lucky I was dealing with an honest gent when I bought my pro-1 from Wisconsin basically on a promise of its condition. I checked over the seller's previous posts and decided for myself he was indeed well-loved on the forum.

Brian, thats a bummer - especially when there were two references for Skip being a 'good guy' in that for sale thread. That would have just about been enough assurance for me. Like I say, I count myself very fortunate.

Man what sight. Thank God it was only 1500.00. Could have been much worse. I am sorry that some one took advantage of the forum and the great people that do have morals. Now that you invested more money into a project than you have planned. It's time to really think this over. Take a loss and be trueful or take the time and money and restore this baby to a grand slice of history. It's the journey and learning that will help you recoop your investment. I bet you do your homework before you make another purchase. I have to say I have been taken a few times on other things that cost much more that any steel guitar. I decided that it was just money so I said a prayer and gave it to God. I know it does not seem to help when your steaming mad. I have found that what goes round, comes round.

I was not going to response to this but this is my good name. I sold this guitar in good faith and have never ever misrepresented anything. The guitar was sold with photos of the inside and the outside, there was no cracks and there has never been any cracks in this instrument. I am ashamed to see the replies that I see on the forum, when you don't know the whole story. The guitar was damaged in shipping, I was told that it was 16" long and would cost $300.00 to fix. I told Brian that I would pay half of that $150.00 to help. Thank you all for understanding the situation. I bought this guitar 6 or 7 years ago and it was my baby it never left the house. It sadden me to to sell it and more to see it damaged like it is. I will not reply again on this matter and it is a shame that someone can slander a persons good name. I have done business with many of you over the years and have never and would never misrepresent anything that I'm selling. The item was damaged during transit, it has insurance on it and he needs to settle it with the freight company. This is the only response that I'm making on this forum, it should not be up for public discussion.

Isn't it usually the shipper's responsibility to make the claim with the freight company?
