I just finished this one up(or nearly finished) for my daughter, Maryanne. It's a '68 "Professional" singleneck, what is simply called a "Pro I".

I acquired this guitar from the original owner, who played at home occasionally as a hobby. Some of ya'll might have seen this guitar displayed at the Dallas Jamboree, in front of Steelseat.com at Thom's booth. Thankyou Thom, for the opportunity to display this guitar. Your beautiful steelseats dressed it up real sweet!!

This guitar had the old rack and barrel system under it. I need to build a small pad for the short ledge, and later, I will install a set of new 18:1 Grover Rotomatic tuners. I have a SWEET TrueTone pickup in this guitar, and I have to build a little bracket to mount the coil tap switch underneath so I don't have to drill a hole in the end plate. Final touch will be Coop's "Super Fingers", later in the year.

I want to thank Mr. John Coop for building such wonderful and beautiful shobud replacement parts. There IS hope for these old shobuds!!

Wow. What a jaw dropper, James. Tha'ts about as good as it gets, in my opinion. Great job on the installation and refurb! And of course, a nod to Coop for making the precision parts.

I figure a nineteen year old girl who takes up steel guitar like her daddy needs to go with a little touch of class. Wink

Thanx everyone for the kind words!! It means a lot to me.

Oh, man - ya had to go show me that. Dead ringer for my Sho Bud Professional, but mine still has the rack and barrel underneath. I'm trying to keep her original, but this look so tempting. Confused

I agree, that's a classy way to start into this pedal steel guitar business. Smile

James, that is a real looker. I have one just like it (still got the rack and barrels). The finish on mine is pretty rough but I do love the old thing. Congrats, it looks great.

Hey James,
What if any are the tonal changes going from rack and baskets to the new set-up? I'm thinking about doing it to a Professional...
thanks,
Joe

Half-stop on the RKL as well? Now you're "pulling out all the stops", aren't you James!

James,
Did you order the parts and install them yourself or did you have John Coop install them?
I have a double I need to do and would like to just order the parts. Sure looks clean.

Thanx for the encouragment, Ricky!! You are a fine teacher of more than just playing steel guitar, my friend!!

Colby, contact John Coop at Cshobud1@wmconnect.com
I did my own installation, with a little coaching from Ricky and John.

Here's the owner of that cool guitar, Maryanne. She admires Sara Jory's and Joan Cox' playing. Here's a couple pics, one she is being my assistant at our club seminar, demo-ing some excersises for the right hand.

Steelseat.com embroidered her name on the seat. Great job, Thom!! And Bill Stroud for BJS bars, too!

Hey Joe C. I find that if anything, the tone comes out better. Those old shobud parts have a lot of slack in them and slack dampens tone, especially when they get some wear, IMO.

Do up your Professional with Coop's parts and the tone will get better, especially if you go all the way with Super Fingers. And it will play smoother and easier, and stay in tune.

Wow... I'm coming in 5 days late here. Can't believe I missed this post. The first PSG I ever played was a pro 1 and I have,,,,, lets say a "fondness" of Sho~Bud Pro 1's. Plus A Bonus! 1968 just so happens to be the year "I" was made. This is my dream guitar. All rebuilt and everything. I just know she'll never part with it. Think I'll go Cry now..... Sad Ha!
