I hear him do it ... even see him do it ... but somehow I can never figure out exactly HOW he does it.

Andy !! Freddies version definitely ain't Santo & Johnnys !! A lot of echo , slides and reverb !! He has his own style that is different and unusual. Makes you listen !! Was enjoyable !! Eddie "C" ( the old geezer ) P. S. I have your " Lap Steel " book . Very nice and I loved all the info and pictures !!

That was great. One of the most enjoyable versions of that song I've heard.

Wow! That sounds like it was beamed in from another planet! Great stuff, very soulful playing. Lots of slants, slides, and delay. When I hear him play I'm reminded of other great original players like Les Paul, Alvino Rey, and Speedy West. He puts his heart and soul into his playing. Thanks for posting this Andy.

Really enjoyed that, no picks on a national special with roland jazz chorus, very unique, but the drummer just does not swing enough for me, he seems to be dragging the whole thing back, give it some jazz brushes 1 say !! but Freddie was great

Freddie is definitely an original and a very well rounded musician. Freddie has been flying well under the radar for much too long. He's knows exactly what he's doing musically speaking and has a very strong sense of self and what he can contribute to a band. He was one of my most enjoyable interviews when I wrote my lap steel book. Glad to see him getting the attention he deserves from the greater musical community. I don't think he's ever been recorded in a manner worthy of his talents. Hopefully, Collin, David, and Mike's new DVD will rectify that.

AAAAh! Great sounds Freddie, I really enjoy your steel playing, hope to hear you at the convention this year, Freddie has always intrigued me with his playing styles, even though I play pedal steel I try to translate these styles to it but never even come close to the originality of Freddie's tunes, I would like to find a lap steel like his, but they are hard to come by, if anyone knows of one for sale somewhere let me know, again Freddie great job, do you have any new CD's coming out?

Andy -- does Freddie come out of the Sacred Steel tradition, or did he develop his style on his own? Definitely a unique version of that old tune!

I've never been a fan of delay that much (except sometimes for tape 'slap-back' for that 50's vibe), but that's just me.

Do you know where this was videotaped? Thanks for posting that!

The Bruce Latimer Show is taped & broadcast live every Wednesday night at 9:00 pm from the Pacifica Community Television station in Pacifica, California. I get it on channel 26 locally (San Bruno, California). He features various local musical acts on his show.

Mr. Roulette developed his style on his own, although he's played with a wide variety of performers over the years (Earl Hooker, Henry Kaiser, etc.).

Hi Todd,

Freddy is not from the "sacred steel" tradition.
