He looked great, played great, sounded great. He will really go places if he stays with it.

This was forumites Johnny Jones, me, my son Jason and Kenny Foy. Kim Tidrow felt it more important to go eat at this historic moment so he missed the photo shoot.

I had one of John Hughey but I can't find it. Oh well, a great time was had by all and the crowd exceeded 200 today. Not bad for such a cold, rainy day.

I cut Earl Erb out of the picture but not on purpose. Rick Vanough is on drums and Rick Boyer is on base. Here's a picture of Jean Hughey but I can't find the one I took of John.

My battery died and I didn't get Russ Hicks or any of the other great players namely Ron Elliot, Joe Wright, Uncle Don Helms, Russ & Laney Hicks, Don Curtis and Scotty, Lynn Owsley and Larry Dolan. What a line up.

I always love to see pics of the master.
My only hope was to play pedal steel guitar and be half as accomplished and knowledgable about the instrument at my age as Buddy Emmons was at my age. I have accepted the reality that it will never happen. ha-ha.
Buddy Emmons had and has figured all of the instruments flaws and positives long before me and some of my peers, colleaques and builders.
There are many I will give due credit to for influence, but there is only one Buddy Emmons.
edited for rambling.

Well said, Tommy! Buddy has forgotten more about steel guitar than most of us will ever know.

(But believe me: you are no slouch! I know that for SURE!)

Mike, thanks for posting the pictures! And could anyone say it better than Tommy White! I heard Buddy play live for the first time in the 70's at Ernest Tubb's(Demonbreun St) record shop "Midnight Jamboree". I have never heard a steel guitar or player sound like that, before or since. I will never forget it.

Buddy, Did Shenendoa(spelling)by himself. It was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes, as did Ron Elliot's tribute to the veterans. Great show...Here's some Photo's.

Every time Ron has ever appeared at Scotty's Convention, he has made it very clear that he and Leslie used the 'wonder bar' on the van's radio to find a 'true' country music station that played 'true' country music. Up until the turn of the century at least, he hadn't found one. My main question is,"Ron, have you ever found one?" If so, please let me know by email (or something!!) as I haven't either and I live near here!! Keep up the great work, pal. We love what you do even though the general public doesn't quite know what that is yet. It's not their fault. They're just used to digging their snouts into the trough like all the rest of 'country America'. (Snort!!!)

Somebody said something similar to what I posted above, that Buddy had forgotten more about steel guitar than most of us will ever know. I believe it was Jimmy Day who replied, "No, he hasn't."

So, I stand corrected... Very Happy

We received this picture taken by our good friend and professional photographer Matt Hughes. I hope I posted it correctly.

I’m sorry that I missed the show, but I understand that they did a fantastic job. Perhaps next year I can get there.
