Has anyone used the Peavey Winsor 100 watt all tube head for pedal steel? I know it is a guitar amp, but how does it sound for steel? Or is it just another cheap amp? Or would the ValveKing head be a better choice?

Haven't tried it myself, but have heard from others that the Windsor has almost no clean headroom; oh, and it is supposed to be modelled on the Marshall JCM800 series - which wasn't exactly famous for its clean sounds; I'd think the Valveking would be a better choice for clean pedal steel playing...

Not sure about the 100-Watt 212 Valveking or the head, but the 112 50-watt Valveking was unsuitable, to my ear, for steel. Not enough clean headroom or bottom end, and the high-end was harsh.

Get an old 70's Sesssion 400..........by far Peavey's best-sounding steel amp, in my experience, and the only Peavey steel amp I can ever dial in easily and properly.

I wouldn't expect the Windsor amp to sound good for steel simply because it is designed for six string electric. But, I haven't tried it and intend to. It is very difficult to arrange to have all Peavey models in one room to diddle with for several hours. Hope to provide this info soon though.............
