I am practicing for a musical comedy play called "Honky Tonk Angels" I will be playing steel. It is scheduled for 3 weekends starting April 13 in Etowah Tn at the "Gem Theater" This play is a couple years old and has played all over the country. I would like to hear from anyone who has played in it.

I've done the show six or seven times and I really enjoy playing the tunes. There's a wider variety of music in this Ted Swindley play than in his other one, 'Always, Patsy Cline'.
If the comedienne playing the central role is strong, then the show 'works'. Keep your fingers crossed!
I hope it'll be an enjoyable experience for you...

Bill,
I played the show HTA last fall at out community theatre. They had 8 performances. All 8 sold out. It was alot of work for little $...... but one of the most rewarding gigs I've ever done. I also had the pleasure of playing steel with my wife Barb as musical director on keyboards. My oldest daughter Stephanie played "Angela"........it was a HOOT! We made some changes, for one thing, the CD we got to listen to, was kinda "pokin" alittle fun at country music, we presented the songs very seriously, which I liked. In fact Stephanie became so pumped after the show, she has been doing some Legendary Ladies Tributes around here locally. We're hav'in areal good time. Have FUN! ( My wife is also a teacher, she goes bananas when she edits my writing. Thats why I don't let her look at this stuff.)

I did an 8 week run of the show at a dinner theatre in Wichita Ks It was a lot of fun. They put us on a huge stage about 4 feet off the ground that was uilt like a juke box. The Music director didn't even know "nightlife" was written by Willie Nelson. Had a great time and would do it again. _________________ D-10 JCH Dekley U-12 D-8 Magnatone Mullen RP Evans RE 200 profex 2 BJS bars

Me too!
Since I came to the USA in 1998, about half my income has come from Ted Swindley's shows, but the ratio between productions of 'Always, Patsy Cline' and 'Honky Tonk Angels' is about 9 to 1, more's the pity.

I played this show about three years ago and it was fun, a lot of work, and very little money. We had a 10 day run of it and it was sold out each performance. The show was so popular that they brought it back the next year for a week, which had never been done before. The three girls were really super and the music directer didn't know country at all, but boy could he play written music. Larry |
