Post by Terry Wood »

Hi Everybody,

We want to invite everyone to come to the 2nd Annual Marshfield Steel Guitar Show to be held on June 9th, 2007 at the Marshfield Jubilee Theater.

We are located about 25 miles east of Springfield, MO just off I-44. We have a great day of Steel Guitar lined up featuring several great steel players, singers and band members.

The days events cost $10 for the admission. Children under 12 accompanied by an adult are Free Admission!
We hope there will be several distributors selling their steel guitars, steel products, DVDs, CDs, and instructional materials.

Hope to see you all there!

May GOD bless!

Hi Rob,

THanks for helping us with the 2nd Annual Steel Guitar Show.

Yes, as you know, it is alot of work as we found out, but it helps us to promote and keep steel guitar alive. We could not do it without help from great people like yourself.

Again, we want to invite all to come out to this show, we are planning a great day of steel guitar, singing, and fun for everyone. Hope you all can make it on June 9th at the Jubilee Theater just one block south of the square in Marshfield, MO the place I call Hometown Americana. Here we have alot of friendly people and just good Old Fashion American values; it's alot like the good old days.

THanks and GOD bless!

Hi Curt,

Wished you could make our show but maybe next year. We got a great day planned for steel guitar this year.

Some of those who are confirmed players for this year's show thus far include:

1) Rob Parker -Paducah, KY
2) Jerry Roller - Van Buren, AR
3) Jack Musgrave - Rogersville, MO
4) Dennis Detweiler - Solon, IA
5) Jimmy Burrell -Northview, MO
6) Scotty Henderson, Lake Ozarks, MO
7) Ray Qualls - Baxter Springs, KS
8) Terry Wood - Marshfield, MO

There are a few more other players that are non-confirmed yet. I do not want to post others names yet, until I am certain they are confirmed. To be honest with the readers here, I have already caught some flack for that.

Also last year we had several others that played our show, but for various reasons, weddings, health reasons, and other prior musical engagements, several of those players cannot attend this year's show. That's part of the music business. However, we will have a great day of music, and a great day of steel guitar for the steel guitar enthusiasts.

So for now, hope that all can attend will. Thanks for supporting us. It's you the steel players and music lovers who make these shows work.

Thanks and May GOD bless!

Sorry! Also, I didn't mean to leave anyone out. We also have a bunch of great backup players, some groups, singers, and musicians who are coming to perform and help us steel players out too.

GOD bless!

Good News! Tyler "The Kidd" Hall is coming back to join us again this year. He was on our show last year and done a super job.

We were concerned that he wouldn't be able to make it, but the Branson Show that he tours the US with will be in the area, so we are glad that he will be joining us.

Tyler, I'm looking forward to hearing all those steel guitar licks you stole from Mr. Bethel.

GOD bless!

Hi David,

Yes, I am glad Tyler is coming to pick too!

For those who haven't heard Tyler play yet, you ought to come out and hear him. He's got a new Emmons reved-up and sounds great!

Thanks to all those who are coming and helping us out. We just couldn't do this show without you.

GOD bless!

Terry is putting a lot of work into planning this show.

It's going to be a good one. The Jubilee Theatre is very nice.

Marshfield is a good town to visit. I'm proud of it; I've lived there my whole life (or, as Lester "Roadhog" Moran would say, "not yet I ain't).

Is Jim McCorder still living around Marshfield? I worked with him for a short time at Pier 65 in Branson (maybe 1979?)?

Terry, many thanks to you and your staff for calling it a "Show". I have seen so many terms labeling this kind of great function as "Throwdown, Jam, Frailing, garage pulling, Wholloping, or other such terms...it just makes me wonder, that these professional have given so many years of being on TV, in movies, on stage, years on the Grand Ole Opry, recording with major artists and creating the music heard on radio and TV today....they should merit a better name than some of the above-mentioned labels. The audiences today PAY to see a SHOW. This is just my humble opinion(as we all are allowed to do). I am very fortunate in being asked to do these SHOWS all over the country and the world. No one ever talks to us about a "Jam, Throwdown, a Git-to-gether, or names like that,..they always ask "Where is your next SHOW?" That always makes a player feel needed and appreciated. Please don't let this stir up the ole Hornet's nest..........it's just a thought in form of a question. Thanks for letting me have a line or two. This is total respect for all the promoters and Musicians involved in this business. When people Pay Money...it is a Business. Many thanks, Ron Elliott

Mr. Elliott,

I agree that an event such as this should be called a "show". To me, the word "jam" implies that everyone brings their instruments and plays, regardless of musical ability. A "jam" is OK, in its place, but if you're paying to get in, you want to hear good musicians put on a "show".

(Before anyone flames me, let me say that I know there are good musicians who play at events that are called "jams"; I also know there are events called "jams" that are pretty painful to listen to. The word "jam", in and of itself, is neither good nor bad.)

Terry's show is, in every sense of the word, a "show". He has spent months hand-picking the musicians that are going to be on it. The quality of the music will be second-to-none.
Very truly yours,

Mr. Detweilier,

I don't know a Jim McCorder, but, then again, I was 3 years old in 1979. Maybe somebody else knows whether he is around here or not.

Dennis, I don't know about Jim McCorder. I will see what I can find out.

Ron, I am in total agreement with you about refering to these as Steel Guitar Shows. As David Tunnell mentioned we spend months working and putting these together. It takes all of us working to organize the shows, and those professionals such as yourself playing them.

This will be our 2nd Annual Show and we are working hard to making everything click. All the players whether they are well known at other shows are really great players. As the organizer of this new yearly show, I try to feature a variety of players and their styles. We had all styles and types of steel players and music featured last year. Our players run the complete musical gaunlet, Country, Western Swing, Pop, Jazz, Gospel, etc. We just couldn't do a show like this without everyones help.

This year's show will be a Goodun' as they say here in the Ozarks.

We have invited the Great Steel Player Rudy Osborne to come join in the 2nd Annual Steel Show. He says that if he is not touring at that time, he would love to come and play on the show.

I have never met Rudy in person but been a fan for sometime. He wrote the title song to Doug Jernigan's L.P. called "Cross Country." It is a really good song and Doug played it super. I have Rudy's CD that's available here on the Steel Forum and it is really a great sounding CD.

Our show will be on Saturday June 9th, 2007 at The Jubilee THeater, Marshfield, MO. We are located just off I-44 and about 25 miles east of Springfield, MO. It's only about 27 1/2 miles from here to the Bass Pro Shop World Headquarters.

Don't forget our 2nd Annual Steel Guitar Show at Marshfield, MO on June 9th, 2007. We are only 70 miles from Branson, MO. You never know who might drop in to play from there.

We will start around 10:30-11:00 and run into the night. So far, we already have a bunch of great guys and players coming to perform. So far we have several players that are coming from AR, OK, KS, IA, AL, KY, TN, and MO.

Our goal is to support Steel Guitar and introduce it and new players as well as pros to the public.

We need to keep all these steel guitar shows going. It is helping to get alot of people introduced to the instrument we all love!

GOD bless!

Hi Scott,

Just read your post that you won't be at Siloam Springs this weekend. I was hoping you'd be there too.

We will see you at Marshfield on June 9th though.
