Last of the Breed - Fire the mixerman.......

Post by Ray Minich »

OK so I managed to get a copy of the Ray Price/Willie Nelson/Merle Haggard CD last night. The department store in Buffalo didn't even know they had it until they searched their inventory records to locate it. It just arrived yesterday and wasn't even on the shelf yet...

A good bunch of classic tunes, arranged well, "articulated well...".

Last evening got out the good Sony phones and gave a listen to the whole set.

My complaint is that the Wurlitzer got way too much Soundstage and Buddy's steel was relegated to the lower right hand corner. Heck, every other instrument got sound center at some time, but not the steel...

Buddy never got equal channel time. Only once in 22 tunes did I hear the faintest echo of the steel in the left channel. The Left channel frequently had the Wurlitzer competing with the steel in the right channel.

The Wurlitzer often also got equal channel time (soudstage center) but Buddy's work never got audio centered.

It was a nice surpise to hear Kris Kristofferson come in on Why Me (Lord)....

Other than that, it's a great bunch of tunes.

Tonight I'll listen in Mono and see if it helps....
