Standel Repair
My Artist XII has developed a loud hum. I'm reluctant to take it to a local shop. Maybe I've read too much about the special parts in them. Suggestions and opinions appreciated . Paul

The schematics for the epoxied preamp modules are available on the Standel website. Also I heard of a tech in Los Angeles named Tin Maag who figured out the secret of the preamp modules before the schematics were available and knows Standels inside out. I don't have his number handy. Send me a reminder email and I'll try to dig it up for you.

Thanks for the name. I'm leaning toward sending it off for repair by a Standel technician. Since it's a piggy back and the speakers are ok, it wouldn't be that big of a job.
I also have a Standel Studio 24 that I'm using right now while the Artist XII is down.
I used a Fender twin for 30 odd years; and, bought a Cyber Twin. I don't like it much.

AMp repair
Where in Ohio are located? A loud hum could be a open filter cap. If you live near Columbus, I could take a look for you and maybe save all that shipping costs

I recommend you take Marvin Born's advice. It sounds like a filter capacitor to me. It is a simple repair for a qualified tech. I've been fixing amps for over 30 years for a living and could probably do it in less than an hour on my worst day. No need to ship it off unnecessarily.
