Rob Ickes w/ David Lee Roth? (oh lord...)
I love Rob Ickes playing, but with all due respect...wow!
The best part is watching Mr. Roth looking around in confusion for each soloist. "Oh, there's the banjo player...no wait...I thought you played that thing...uh, what do they call it...dobro?"
You can watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YW5-mPbkKw8&search=david%20lee%20roth

You should read Dave's bio "Crazy from the Heat" . The guy really is a mad genious. I have so much respect for the man. He was my hero when I was a teen and now as an adult he has my respect as a human being. I loaned the book to my dad and he love's Dave now. BTW he did guest vocals on 2 tracks on a Van Halen bluegrass tribute album called "Strummin with the Devil" it's definitely not a career move. LOL

Craig, I'm sure you will enjoy the thread from the "Music" section that was started on June 6.

If you want a good chuckle-go to the Jerry Douglas bulletin board-we had a lot of fun with this topic. The thread went the full 100 posts, which is the maximum over there.

The thing is - he didn't change his vocal delivery at all. It was like he was performing in front of a very loud rock band still. He should have had a little more thought of the ensemble and the sound. He is charismatic enough to pull anything he wanted off - but he just went to what was comfortable I guess.

I think it's a brave attempt to sell CDs to people who wouldn't normally listen to this type of music. I don't think I'd buy a copy, but I've seen far worse things on TV.
Thanks for sharing that!

Have to agree with all above. It's "Mr. Fame" way out of his coy pond. But, gotta give him some due for still tryin' after all these yowls. Took a look at his kid's vid on the 'Explore More'..sidebar, and it's obvious that she has the same genes--trying hard, but..talent isn't something you pose for.

Thanks for the heads up on the vid. That looks like a super fun gig. David Lee Roth has always been one my faves.

Love DLR but a bluegrass version of "Jump" is needless.
cheers,
