I received a nice set of CDs from the Japanese steel guitarist Sugino Nob. His web site is in Japanese, but he has samples of his playing here.

I think he has a unique voice on the steel. If I had to compare him to anyone it would probably be David Lindley, but only on some of his songs.

It's always interesting to me to see where people are taking the steel guitar.

Way cool!!!! I listened to his samples and really liked what I heard - Brad, since my Japanese is a little rusty, did he mention anything about where to buy his CDs?

Using Google's auto translation option, I could get to a sales page that was only partially translated but does have his email address. When I try to post that page here it reverts to his home page. The label is called Twins Records. Any Japanese-speaking members on the forum?

Wow! Cool music! Mr. Sugino seems to have been playing lap steel as professional since late 70s. I will post here again if I hear from him regarding his CD.

Many Japanese have taken to both lap steel, non-pedal, and pedal steel guitars. There is a profound interest in steel guitar in Japan.

It is nice to hear the variational playing styles of the Japanese.

We have a contingent of Japanese players coming from Japan every 2 years, who play at the Hawaiian Steel Guitar Convention in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Also at this international convention in Honolulu, steel guitar players have come from all over the world to bring their various stylings, i.e. England, Finland, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Japan, etc.

Aloha,
Don

Hi Brad,
Thank you very much for posting a message about me!
Now I'm trying to find a way to sell my CDs outside Japan.
And waiting for the answers from my agent living in Los Angeles.
I will make a decision in a few days,I guess.
I made a page in English about my CDs and my e-mail address. You also can reach it
from the MP3 page. http://www.h6.dion.ne.jp/~lapsteel/Pages/forOVS.html/

Thanks Brad...keep us posted Still can not bring up his page, My conp. will not let me do it. What would be cool is that you come into the Chat Room at a set time and play some of the cuts you have on your cds from him.
Just a thought
Herman
