Bobby's 8 yr. old solo CD 'Steel Reflections' is now under the up standing control of Mike Cord and has been re-released.
Hopefully, we'll now see a new CD soon from Hawaii's most soulful steeler and mandolinist.

Always great to hear Bobby's nahenahe steel playing.
Many years ago I heard him play steel guitar in a very informal situation in Hawaii and wondered why Bobby was not featured someplace and recognized more for his talent. Well time has been on Bobby's side, and he has become a well entrenched fixture in Hawaiian steel music.
Previously, when I became a board member of HSGA, I highly recommended that we feature him as a guest artist because I already knew that he was a great talent. That soon came about. Long story short, he played, smiled and everybody fell in love with him and his sensitive, heart-felt playing. Afterwards, he was very quickly invited to be the featured guest artist at the Aloha Steel Guitar Club convention in Winchester. There he played, smiled and everybody there fell in love with him.
Does Bobby have any enemies? I think not, he wins everybody over with his smile.
May many other people come to discovery the beauty of his steel guitar playing.
Aloha,
Don [This message was edited by Don Kona Woods on 10 June 2006 at 11:55 PM.] |

Very well said Don. Bobby always surprises me. When I think I know how good he really plays, he blows me away again with his talent. He has come a long way since his CD came out. |

Like a lot of my customers.....it's past due!
I listen to "Reflections" every other Sunday morning when I perform my long drawn out breakfast ritual.
The other Sundays, I listen to Peggy Green's pedabro cd, "Songs of Naka Pieda."
This has been a mainstay for me for YEARS. Beautiful music that touches the soul.
and people have told me that I'm touched....

I bought Bobby's CD at Silver Platters in Seattle about a month ago. I agree with you Ron, Bobby is a very "Soulful Steeler" and not just a steel guitar player.
Another CD from Bobby is long overdue.
Does anyone know which tuning Bobby used on
"SAND."

Most likely he used his usual C6 with a G on top.
He finds a way to do everything with his standard set up. |

My tuning preference for Sand, How'd Ya Do ETC. is the B-11th tuning, but Bobby sounds excellent on any tune he plays.

"Sand" is simply outstanding on this album. To me, it is the very essence of Hawaiian style playing and, if forced to choose, I would offer Bobby's version of "Sand" as a one-shot example of steel guitar Hawaiian style.
Time for another album all right. |
